I thought it was legal to grow for decoration but illegal to harvest, a lot of grandma's are breaking the law.

It's all in the Latin name, apparently.  Not all poppies are Papaver somniferum.

But I doubt many grammas know the difference, much less many cops.  It's just a flower, after all.  Old lady across the street in Illinois had orange poppies all along the side of her house.  I checked them out and they seemed to me to be the real deal, had the pods, which exuded milk when cut, etc.

The drug was responsible for the worst mass killing in the county's history — slayings in 2009 that residents still refer to as “the opium murders.”

No, the fucking LAW was responsible for that.  The law goes away, so does the value, and the killing follows the money.  It's this kind of shit that makes ME want to kill somebody.

I have several species of poppies

growing in my garden. Not

sure of all their names, butt I do

know the Iranian and corn poppies.

The others are bigger and showier.

They all produce pods

and the those typical black seeds.

Some reseed prolifically. Some

grow and multiply by rhizomes

others just bunch up biggerer

and biggerer year after year.

Not sure which species is best

for the popular seed, butt the seed

is very popular in these parts.

I've ridden my bike past hectares

of the heads in mid-summer.

Wondered if it would make me

sleep to pass when they're in bloom.
