Believe it or not™,
trying Voyager for the first time tonight.

Spent the week trying different gins for comparison,
as I am not a connoisseur.

Gotta say, I'm impressed.

Blueberry tea and Sirpiss.

It's like a fairly fresh bruise:
both painful and strangely satisfying.

It was 110 today and too damned hot to leave the house.
Prolly only 100 now.

Extra hoppy, (100+ IBUs) and extra lemony (it's actually brewed with lemon rind and flesh).

An interesting experiment (as are many of Sam's beers), but not one I'd visit again.

You push a button and 30 seconds later you have a hot cup of coffee.
You can watch and hear it grid the whole beans and it forces the water through.

A beer story.

Once upon a time, G&C had a party.
Jack came with some beers and gave one to his host stating "It needs some time. Put it away and forget about it for a few weeks before drinking." I believe it also came with a claim it should be best as a warm drink.
It came in a flip top bottle. I forget what he said it was...

Flash to present day.
I was digging through the closet and guess what I found?

So I ask:
1. What is it?
2. Should it be tried warm?
3. Is it too late?

Perhaps Felix can find Jack & prod him for the answers?

Ho xit!

I think you found a bottle of Glue Creek. I still have a few bottles of those left and tried one over the holidays. It's a strong, dark Winter Warmer made with a lot of cherries and pie spices. Plan to do another batch this fall...

I prefer it at room temparature, but you can actually heat it up (like a warm hard cider.) At room temperature, it will have no alcohol bite and be fruitier. Drink it hot and it will be spicier and have a hint of brandy.

Yes, it should definitely still be good and will most likely last for many more years. You might want to wait until the holidays, or drink it now if you feel like a Winter Warmer. The weather is closer to winter today anyways...

Thinking about it further...could also be a bottle of Barley Rum (although I think I used bottles with caps for that batch.)

In that case, it will have little to no carbonation (while the Glue Creek will have some carbonation and form a head.)

That is a very strong, dark ale that should last decades. It is not spiced, no fruit.

I believe you could drink that one cold; I'd suggest room temperature; probably not hot.

It's different. First of all, mine has some carbonation. Liefmans was better warm or hot as opposed to room temperature. I think mine is better room temperature.

They both have the old prune/raisin character when aged.

Funny.
I bake in the heat in °F and cook in °C.

Cooking using °C has screwed with my mind as I've always tried my best NOT to act like a Kanadienne and use the metric system. I often forget which is supposed to be "metric."
I brew beer in both °F and °C. That can get confusing...
Metric seems better for some things but not all measurements...

Distilling is very hard. My finger tips are sore from handling buckets of sludge.
Cheryl was a sweetheart to us, she showed us the on switch, provided the guidance and let us do whatever we wanted, as long as we stuck to the agreed upon herb bill. The secret recipe was discovered in an ancient mound at Trinity, engraved on golden plates. The herbs were supplied by Eric, myself and Cheryl and included 2 types of anise and 3 types of fennel, including Fennel Doux, Provence. Cuts were carefully monitored and the entire thing was wrecked colored and racked in about 3 long days. It was back breaking work.
The whole thing almost didn't happen, after we were all on the road we found out the base alcohol was not there, and might not get there. We lost two days spent sitting on our hands with no idea what would happen, I felt like a fish out of water.

> Take any home?

Small samples. Most of it is aging.

> Does it have a name or label

It has a working name and rough ideas for a label. The ultimate label of course must be submitted to the Feds for approval.

> and is it different than the legendary Artisinale?

Yes, different.

> Will this be an ongoing venture/partnership?

One-time thing. There's probably no doubt in my mind this absinthe will never be made again.

Much gratitude to Cheryl, who was gracious and accommodating beyond what any of the rest of us had any right to expect.
