Some of those I've never seen before.  Nice.

Is it already time to set the clocks back?

Yes.  To 1958.

That was NOT a reference to your pictures, if that's what you're humming about.

I was thinking about the jack-o-lanterns, black cats, etc. on the wall in a first-grade school room.  Everything was black and orange, and scary, and vintage-looking.  The point of comparison was not your pictures (that never occurred to me - I had to look at them again just now to see if you even had Halloween stuff in them), but the comical (presumably) shit that one sees today in neighborhoods, such as inflatable octopods, and not Cthulu-like, either, but "cute" crap.  I assume that decorations are absent altogether from most school rooms these days.  I almost explained it but figured Tibro would get it with no explanation, based upon conversations we've had over the years about living in the past.  I apologize if others didn't get it.  Your pictures were very nice, every aspect of them.  Unfortunate vague-osity on my part, nothing more.

To put it more shortly if not succinctly, I took Tibro's post to be about the clocks to be about nostalgia (as for Louchefests) and because I share his point of view, broadened it to the world in general but with a view to this time of year, and even further in the past.

Paste smelled good enough to taste, but a taste didn't make me want to eat more.

The smell of a freshly mimeographed page, however, was special.  Children holding them to their faces, maybe their first and probably their cheapest buzz.

Getting my arm stuck in the slats on the back of the wooden desk chair and having the janitor called to get me free, I don't miss that.

'S what I fingered. I agree in general, but I was pointing out that for those serious enough to forgo today's kitschy inflatable bullxit... modern tech allows for a lot more.

Technology was there to throw a projection onto a window, certainly... but it would not have been as simple as plugging a laptop into a projector. And creating an indefinite loop would have consumed enough resources as to make it impractical in 1958... nevermind the inferior resolution you would have had to work with.

As you can see from my house, it might be Disney's Haunted Mansion themed, but it is far from kitschy...

I really didn't focus on anything but the bottles and labels in your photos at first look, but I did appreciate the decor and the furnishings as well upon further review.  Indeed not kitchy.  Our house is similar, but I'm too lazy to bother with pictures anymore.  There are a lot of skeletons - people, crows, rats ...

And creating an indefinite loop would have consumed enough resources as to make it impractical in 1958

It's the most obvious reason the first moon landing is not fake.  The technology to get people to the moon existed at that time.  The technology to fake that video did not.  But I will never agree that technology should have anything to do with Halloween.

But I will never agree that technology should have anything to do with Halloween.

You may have a point there.

I am in IT for a living, and what do you think I had the most trouble with in setting up this shindig? That's right... THE FOOKING COMPUTER.

I have an old laptop I leave around for the sole purpose of projecting apparitions on Halloween.

I have a corporate network at my house. When I fired up the laptop for the first time in a year, for some reason it was not connecting to my WiFi, so I could not log in with my domain account onacuz no domain was available and I had since changed my password. I could not for the life of me remember what I had set the local admin password to, so I could not even log into the OS to diagnose the problem. I have another laptop, but it is newer and the projector is an older unit that requires a DB15 input which of course the new computer doesn't have.

As you can imagine, with my over-confidence in all things IT related... I thought nothing about waiting until the last minute to set the projector up. As a result, people are already xowing the fuck up as I'm wrestling with this xit!

On to plan B... I literally hucked the fooking old laptop across the room, and decided to get things going on my desktop machine which resides in the same upstairs room. Naturally, it has a newer, high-powered graphics adapter with digital outs only. So hear I am, on the floor and struggling to rip the video card outta the machine just so's I could utilize the onboard CPU graphics. Keep in mind, all of this is extremely difficult for me to get done in a hurry, as since my spinal cord surgery... I am still in a walker and it's a huge pain in the @$$ to do anything down low.

After all that, I confingered the video playlist, watched a sequence thru to make sure it would loop properly without stopping, and finally scooted my ass back down the stairs to finally join in on the festivites and switch my whole house audio setup from a NOLA jazz station to my Haunted Mansion soundtrack (which I had originally planned on doing before anyone arrived).

So then, what happens when the next person arrives at my door?? "Uh... I was outside watching a huge eyeball staring at me from the upstairs window, when suddenly it switched to a lady running across a beach." FOOKING HELL!!! A windows update dropped the media player, so all that was projecting was the Windows background. ARGHH!! Now I gotta scooch my gimpy ass back upstairs. It even occurred to me as I was setting things up that I xould unplug the damn internet connection so's Windows 10 won't force an update, but somehow... I didn't do it.

ANYwhoo... TL;DR... The party was a huge success, overall:

Not denying the obvious role of technology in art, just that from a mystical point of view, for All Hallow's Eve I think the old ways are not only sufficient, but more effective.  Vacuum distillation is supremely efficient, art aside, but I suppose an argument could be made for the spiritual efficacy of shiny copper and coils as well.

There was nothing but "Hmmmm...".  Video has been problematic on this site for a long time.  I've had Adobe flash disabled for even longer (with Firefox) - as a result, most videos here don't show except as annoying little sub-windows urging me to install Flash, which obviously, I won't - it's been obsolete for ages and dangerous for longer than that.  But in your post, there was only text - no video, no warning, nothing but text.  I'm about to dump Firefox as well in view of the fact their latest downgrade disabled all my helper applications without warning me, and their next one will do the same but NOT allow me to re-enable them.  Actually, the browser that comes with Windows 10 works on sites where Firefox doesn't, so I may just bite the bullet and use it all the time.

The Absinthe Donuts Story

I used to think that I’d seen everything. I had experienced so many
things that I had become jaded with life; nothing affected me anymore. I
was world-weary in the truest sense.

That was before I drank absinthe. That devil juice is brewed from the
urine of Lucifer. Now I know why Van Gogh cut off his ear and why
Toulouse-Lautrec painted funny looking midgets; it wasn’t mental
illness, it was that goddamn absinthe.

The original donut was a gateway surrounded by a dense, dark thicket.  It was the threshold of a serpent who offered a delicacy labeled neither "good" nor "evil".  Bastard wouldn't reveal the price, either.  One or more souls, prolly.

Sipping on some Drillaud dry French vermouth I found at a local wine store. This stuff advertised as being the recreation of an 1880's recipe and needs some shaking to stir up the herbal residues -- just the kind of thing that sparks my imagination.  It's not bad, herbally complex with citrus notes from the lemonbalm. I taste some pontica as well as maybe gentian and hyssop. Stands well on its own but nice with gin too.
