I'm a horrible person.

I persuaded a coworker to violate her 30-day juice fast by joining me for a beer, or 'hop and barley juice' as I called it.

And I fully intend on doing it again.

When will I learn to stop buying New Belgium beer?
They always catch me when I'm vulnerable and buying fruit. Their displays always look so promising at the end of the produce aisle.
And their beer always sucks.

Apparently, I need to stop drinking if I'm to be trusted to buy beer.

By DANIELLE HAYNES, UPI.com

Hydrating beer may be the future go-to drink for folks who have worked up a sweat after Australian researchers developed a way to add electrolytes to the alcoholic drink.

Researchers at Griffith University's health institute in Queensland said reducing the alcohol content in beer and adding electrolytes -- an ingredient commonly found in sports drinks -- could help beer drinkers retain more hydration.

The modification to the brew wouldn't change the taste, either, The Sydney Morning Herald reported.

In the study, scientists modified two commercial beers -- one light, one regular strength -- and tested them, alongside unmodified beers, on volunteers who had worked up a sweat.

"Of the four different beers the subjects consumed, our augmented light beer was by far the most well retained by the body, meaning it was the most effective at re-hydrating the subjects," said Associate Professor Ben Desbrow.

"If you're going to live in the real world, you can either spend your time telling people what they shouldn't do, or you can work on ways of reducing the danger of some of these socialized activities," he added.

Indeed.

Which is to say it's better than the vast majority of them.

I don't give a crap how much of a corporate behemoth InBev is, The fact is, they've allowed Goose Island to continue brewing their strong ales without any interference, and the continued high quality of said ales is all the proof I need. In fact, if it weren't for InBev's financial support of such brews, their distribution would have remained relatively local, and I never would have gotten to try them.

The bottom line is, I'm damned glad InBev bought A-B. At least the best of their beers have become more accessible, and as to their mass-produced crap, who gives a, well, crap?

Speaking of which, today I'm enjoying a King Henry from the pre-takeover days, and its quality is similar to the present limited addition high gravity ales.

Went to a local beer store, the cheapest beer they had was a "limited release" InBev/Goose Island pale ale, 6.99/6-pack. I'm guessing InBev is using whatever "street cred" GI gained for high gravity stouts to position it to fill the slightly upscale 'merican beer slot once held by Michelob while undercutting the prices of local brewers and anyone else without deep pockets. In that I like beer, I won't be drinking GI.

The bourbon and rye barrel ageing definitely add welcome complexity, although a bit less time in the barrels might have let the base beer shine through a bit more. Between the two, I'd say this was a definite improvement, but it's not as balanced and as my favorite Evil Twin, Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Biscotti Break.

3. shit city

A particular place, town, city, gathering, bar ect... The people hanging out in a shit city are what make "it" such a shitty place to be. This "place" lacks tack, manors, honesty, integrity and respect for oneself and others (even one friends). People that "live" in a shit city often make fun of people (strangers, familiar
faces, apparent friends, even relatives) outloud to make their own
pathetically boring dirt filled lifestyles less visible to others. Often when shit city folks call others harmful names they are intellectually unaware of their own degrading characteristics, often mirroring/mimicking the same character flaws. They succeed in a cunning mind
game of who can come up with the "best" derogatory statements while
consequently detaching themselves from any moral obligations to society.
Eventually shit citiers pull the wool over their own eyes leaving them to be nothing more than an uninformative gossip consumed mouth.

Fortunately these type of people are completely extinct! haha

Shit City thrives on the other side of the fence at every major military base, especially in foreign countries.

At Clark Air Base in the Philippines, there was Gobbler's Gulch, also known as the Turkey Ranch.

At Kadena on Okinawa, there was The Bush.

These were not nice places.

San Miguel, yep.  Good beer.  I liked the dark one even better.

It was better in any case than Orion.  Okinawan beer.  O-ree-ohn bee-roo.

My experience outside the fence in the PI was limited to one excursion.  I had a turkey on my lap, bought her a drink, but declined her extended services, which seemed to piss her off.

I was told that you could have somebody killed for ten dollars American, but I wasn't there long enough for anybody to piss me off.

So many good beers coming out of VT. Starting it off (after some tequila at work) with Lawson's sip of sunshine. Made in CT, not available there, and almost impossible to find here. Juicy and hoppy. Delicious.

That just doesn't sound good to me. I don't want cinnamon in my beer. And I don't want bourbon in there neither. Whiskey belongs is a glass and the only beers that should be wood aged are sour. Fuck the booze-barrel tainted xit.

With the possible exception of a little bit of cinnamum in a little bit of beers (pumpkin ale), I agree.  Keep the coffee away from beer, too.
