Sucked.

Am I the only one who thought it was a shitty movie? I loved the toys when I was a kid, and loved the original animated movie (with Orson Welles voicing the planet Unicron!), but for a big crazy action movie, I couldn't make heads or tails of half the action. The transforming effect was awesome, as were the sound effects, but most of the Transformers fighting each other was just shit flying all over the place, smashing, crashing and I couldn't tell who was doing what to whom most of the time. Michael Bay needs to take action directing lessons from John Woo, Tony Scott, Michael Mann and whoever directed the Parkour stuff for the beginning of Casino Royale. Action shouldn't be on screen anarchy, it should be like a well coreographed ballet where you can see how one action leads to the next. It was too bad because the CG animation obviously looked incredible, but it was wasted by having them do absurd sloppy actions that looked like a big mess onscreen.

On the other hand of computer animation, Ratatouille was the best looking CG film I've ever seen ever and in terms of quality film-making it was just as good as The Incredibles (which IMO is the best CG film ever made). Even though there was less action, because the movie was better I thought the action was more suspenseful than Transformers because I actually gave a shit about what was going on because the story was good. Even that little 5 minute short with the Alien Abduction driving test called "Lifted" that was shown before Ratatouille was a better movie than Transformers and it was ridiculously simple.

So to summarize, Michael Bay is a shitty director and Brad Bird is an awesome director.

Ah, grate. Now I'll have to sit through Casino Royale so the Liver can indulge his parkour woody. Maybe I'll get just desserts by making him go see Ratatouille.

I'm gonna see it tomorrow. Michael Bay sucks but I'm hoping I can enjoy it since I've waited for live action Transformers for 20 years.

As a kid I enjoyed the animated movie but I've seen it more recently and I find the whole thing very confusing. It seems like they wanted to make sure every character made an appearance and the plot seemed cobbled together just to make sure the characters go through as many environments as possible as quickly as possible without any real reason. I kinda look at it the same way you look at the new movie.

Sucked.

You couldn't figure that out without wasting the time to see it?

Oh, I knew it would suck. It's Michael Bay movie. I just thought at least the ACTION part of it on the big screen would be satisfying and worth the price of admission (the action scenes in Pearl Harbor and The Rock were well done, after all), but even that was disappointing. Because I loved the toys I figured they could improve upon the cartoon now that the technology is up to speed. But even though it looked amazing visually, it didn't matter because it was utterly incoherent.

There was a preview before Transformers for the new JJ Abrams movie, however, that was better than the Transformers film in its entirety, so I guess I paid $6 to see a really cool preview.

I agree on the Ratatouille. Amazing work.

I just want to see Transformers for the hot chick.
