I had a glass from a bottle of the most recent batch of Lucid.

It smelled harsh.
It tasted harsh.

More water didn't help.

Anyone else notice a difference in the new batch vs. the first?
Maybe Cros had it right. Lucid does suck.

I sent away two of my first/last three bottles.

The one I kept failed to get the road tar off from under my truck, so I dropped it of at the hazmat center.

I’m amazed that as bad as Rancid™ is, Ted still manages to fuck up the quality control part.

Mebbe Veridian decided to cut costs on the second batch.

I hear brake fluid makes grate absinthe... and it stays green in the sun.

I recently got a bottle of the newer batch and thought it was harsh too. I couldn't seem to get the water ratio right. At 2.5:1 it was too alcoholic all the way to 3.5:1, and then it tasted too thin past 3.5:1. So I poured a glass from the 60ml I had left from the first batch and realized that the 1st batch and 2nd batch are surprisingly similar. I think the main problem with Lucid is that it probably uses cheaper herbs than Jade and probably also uses a different process/colouration, and so the result is, not surprisingly, average.

I think when I taste a new absinthe for the first time I tend to like it better than subsequent tastings, probably because the first glass tastes "different" than what I'm used to. I still don't think it "sucks" or is "rancid", but it's nothing special. But maybe it is to somebody who is relatively new to absinthe.

Why in the hell would ANYONE buy this crap????

"ANYONE" has 3 options for Absinthe:
1. Buy expensive absinthe from overseas and spend even more than the cost of the bottle on shipping.
2. Save money and buy the only Absinthe you can buy in the US, and get an absinthe that is lower quality than some of the pricey overseas stuff, but is at least distilled and superiour to lesser distilled brands like F. Guy and Pernot.
3. Break the law and make it yourself.

For people who are tired of #1 and don't want to do #3 or can't do #3 or can do #3 but don't do it well, then their only option is #2, which is one more option than they had 5 months ago. If Lucid does well, then hopefully that will create incentive on the part of other foreign (and hopefully local) distillers to make #2 a better option than it currently is.

Can't argue with that. It's a better option at 1/5th the price, though it isn't absinthe. But good Arak is better than so-so Absinthe.

Arak's not green. I only drink green booze. Should I mix it wit' absente? Is that "Arak Refined"? ;)

Are you one of the cool kids yet? Cuz they must've lowered their standards then. If I'm not witty enough, then neither are you pal. So shut up and let the professionals do the bantering.

Can't argue with that. It's a better option at 1/5th the price, though it isn't absinthe. But good Arak is better than so-so Absinthe.

I agree, I just tried Arak last night and holy shit is that stuff good!!! I wonder about mixin in some wormy then running it through the water purifier...

--------------------
What is there in absinthe that makes it a separate cult? The effects of its abuse are totally distinct from those of other stimulants. Even in ruin and in degradation it remains a thing apart: its victims wear a ghastly aureole all their own, and in their peculiar hell yet gloat with a sinister perversion of pride that they are not as other men.

I have added 2-3 drops of pure wormwood oil to Arak Jdoudna and it really was suggesting something so dear to our louched hearts.

Louche up to 1:4 and add oil-it helps. Not xure which arak you have, it has worked with Jdoudna, anyway.

And those absinthes include? Let me guess, Hills, Strong 68, KOSG . . .?

I'd think you were a puppet but you're too sincerely dumb for that.

You've stumbled into the wrong place if you want to hold forth with little knowledge and praise weak products, even our pets know far more about absinthe than you.

You would feel much more at home here.
