No modern twists, no compromises.

QUOTE
MARTEAU is the finest 19th Century style, 100% authentic absinthe made and sold in the United States since 1912.

I guess we'll have to wait and see. It's got to be better than the last crap he had made.

I wonder if he'll have to change
his qualifier as "the finest"
once some legitimate contenders
get their US made products out.

Different recipe. Probably (shock! awe!) without celery.

By the way, US patent number 6084285 describes a "lateral-flux capacitor having fractal-shaped perimeters", but not in Quenya. And I'm not drunk.

Number Six is unmutual today. Probably Season Four messing with its mind.

I was talking with a friend about our need for some empty bottles. . .

I've got lots of absinthe bottles with 1 or 2 drinks left in them, little dribs and drabs of stuff I'll probably never want to finish.

I think I'll dump it all into 1 bottle.

That way I can free up some empty bottles, and make some Marteau at the same time!

The selling of liquor via DUNY on a "pre-release" basis has nothing to do with the distiller/maker. It is solely the retailer's decision. FWIW, if Pacifique goes to DUNY, they may also offer a "pre-release" order. Once the booze leaves the distillery to the distributor, the distiller no longer has any say-so.

Actually it;s the wholesaler's that you want to avoid.

In NY, they have a couple things that slow down a release. These are the 60 day wholesale price posting notice and the 30 day retail price posting notice. These are sent to the State Liquor Authority. So, irrespective of how quickly any wholesaler can get any spirit to the state, it has to follow these regs.

I myself will work with DUNY because they have a good track record of selling absinthe outside NY.

I find it difficult to believe that any state would set regulations which favor incumbents over new entrants.

Believe it or not the new Marteau is decent. I wouldn't buy a bottle, there's a few idiosyncratic aspects to it that would keep me from making it a regular (iris tastes like funeral home, guess that's the goth part), but the wormwood in it is very good and it's well made, albeit it a bit imbalanced. Whatever one may think about H as a person and how he runs his forum (I'm no more a fan of that than anyone else is), he has learned to make a drinkable absinthe.

...and an ego standing in his way.
Despite what some people here may think of him, I don't think he's sinister at all. Just a bit clumsy and opinionated.

What it tastes like is an HG that is pretty good in its current form but needs some recipe tweaks. Everything else is fine though, in fact the toughest parts (the color and keeping it really clean) showed no evidence of a problem. So I guess what he learned got him off the training wheels and riding on his own competently, he's just not in the Tour de France yet.

The price seems excessive though. People can charge whatever they want, but when an imported Vieux Pontarlier is $64 I don't get why this native made one is so much more. I understand Leopold's point that there's no way to know what extra expenses were incurred in making it, and a lot of people lately are learning just how friggin expensive it is to get started, but it isn't exactly priced to move.

I think "sinister" implies a certain amount of native intelligence. I would never use "sinister" to describe Hiram.

How about “pompous ass”? Norom™ seems to work too.

I'd say "pompous ass", but I'm one myself, so it doesn't convey everything I want it to convey -- he takes himself more than a bit too seriously and I consciously try to avoid that trap.

I wouldn't say Norom™, because I don't think he is one. A bit too naive, clumsy, with little empathy (unable to understand that others aren't wired like he is), with too much inclination to listen to sycophants and not enough willingness to question himself, yes.

But not a Norom™. If these traits were fatal, we'd all be dead, because we're all Hirams in those respects to at least some degree.
