I have the door to the sunporch open,
because it is finally warm enough, and
the window directly to my left has the
ghostly, angelic image of a mourning
dove in flight, captured at the moment
it smacked into the glass.
No carcass in the yard, but them purdy
boids ain't too bright.

Springtime?

Snowing here.
Almost 2 weeks now.
Wheather forecast says another week...
Damn, I hate that icy shroud...
Louched Liver
Not officially spring.
But the mercury rose up in the 60s
and I heard a house finch sing last
week. The geese have been heading
north for about 2 weeks, as have
the vultures.
'Course they just may be circling
because I'm out in the yard.

The flickers started hammering 1 week ago today; always a sure sign of spring starting.

Our crocuses are blooming thru the leftover patches of snow. The grape hyacinths are starting to bloom. The daffodils are pushing their way up, just starting to see their leaves emerging from the ground. Buds on the aspen & lavendar tree tips.

Yup, may have a few more snow days this month, but spring has definitely sprung around these parts. Still a novelty to me after 25+ years in LA.
DrinkSlinger
As much as I love warm weather, it's too early for me.

IT'S MARCH 3rd FOR CHRISSAKES! WE NEED SNOW!

That said, I'm taking the cover off the red penis mobile and taking her for a spin. wink.gif

I keep tellin' those constant weather fuckers
what a joy it is to see the changing of the
seasons.
Since I take the Wonder Dog for daily walks
it really stands out when the good shit
starts.

Seasons make the world go 'round.
Or at least they remind me that the world is going 'round.
Le Gimp
I wnet to get the bike ready for a ride Sunday and found the front brake caliper leaking break fluid.

It is springtime when I start wanting to ride again.

45MPG I can deal with too.

Should hit the low 70's today. I love CA.
sheepprofessor
Thank you, Global Warming!
CelticGent
it got up to 45 here!!!!

supposed to snow before the weekend though.
Le Gimp
62 outside now. Crocuses are coming up. Spring is just around the corner (probablyhas a knife and is going to rob me knowing my luck).
CelticGent
i doubt it. the money that your militia prints isn't worth anything.

Funny to find this thread. I awoke this morning thinking
I've been wearing a coat for six months.
Isn't it supposed to be hot by now?

And I usually smell the orange blossoms in February
but I haven't noticed 'em yet.

Spring only lasts about a week here anyway, then it's summer.

And I can't wait for summer.
Off. Jack Batemaster
Ah, the orange blossoms. I remember that....
greeneyes
My first dwarf daffodil came up two days ago and the freesias aren't far behind.
CelticGent
the frozen dogshit in my yard is starting to thaw.

gee, i love spring.

Peeps-

Freesia is my favorite!

My mother had dwarf tulips. Only it turned out they weren't dwarf after all. She just planted the bulbs upside down.

laugher.gif Dwarf tulips, eh?

I'm hoping the freesia and narcissus will overlap so's I can smell 'em together.

3 inches today.................................................of snow
Raindog
Its 75 here right now, I look forward to seeing the elderly return to ya's. yes1.gif
A.B. Normal
I'll second that.

All you Minnesotans can prepare for your elderly to return home once again and clog your streets with slow moving Buicks.
DGLeadbetter
75 here today.

Downright chilly.

You know it's Spring in NYC when the Mr. Softee fleet returns!

Okay.

The Mayor's hangin' out with you?
Louched Liver
I don't hang it out when it's soft.
False advertising.

Hm. Springtime in Phoenix.

Taken out my front door about 30 minutes ago.
DGLeadbetter
What the hell????

It's 75 here ... that's just not right.

DG
A.B. Normal
It was raining on and off all day but then some big storm rolled in and we got pelted with hail for about 15 minutes.

On the upside, it seems that my rosemary becomes really aromatic after being pelted with hail for 15 minutes.
Deluge
Minneapolis is going to get 5+ inches of snow tonight. nopity.gif

Most likely because it's crushed.

DG

When I pelted Rosemary, all she said
was "Hell!"
Louched Liver
Didn't last 15 minutes, of course.

Not to get back on topic or anything,
but we completely bypassed spring and
apparently headed full speed into summer.

87 yesterday
93 today

Back to craving salads and fruit
and drinking a gallon of water per day.

I was just starting to get used to $30 electric bills
and now I have six months of $250 ones heading
this way (and I keep the thermostat at 84).
DrinkSlinger
xit.

It was looking like spring (45+f) and melting snow, until I woke up this morning to a miserable blanket of snow. I guess winter is here... for at least another 2 months.

My electric bill remains pretty constant. About $125 year round. Heat in winter, AC in summer.

I always try to drink at least 1gal of water each day... it helps to combat the quart of alcohol I consume each night.
Kirk
I spent all weekend tilling and preparing a half acre instead of my usual quarter acre, it got up to 70 degrees. Now there's a little snow on the ground. My seeds are on the way and I'm thinking about plowing an acre. I've been picking asparagus , daffodils , hyacinth and crocuses for almost 3 weeks now, can't wait till the lettuce starts coming up.
A.B. Normal
I'm just trying to get grass to grow in my backyard.
It's mostly just cracked earth, but I've got some growth around the edges.
I may have to start watering it and see what happens.
I just hate to waste water here.

Oh well, when we run out, we'll just steal it from Colorado.

Damn! My bill in NYC is only $80. I do have gas heat though, not electric, so maybe that's why.

In Jersey my monthly Utility bill was $260. Fuckin de-regulation screwed everybody there.
Le Gimp
My electric bill averages $165/month with the worst being January whch hits around $220. Spring and fall will run around $70 and summer peak will hit around $170.

I could drop it around $30/month if i would unplug the beer refrigerators. Naaaa. No way.
Off. Jack Batemaster
I have oil heat, so I'm getting screwed right now with the climbing gas prices. Most homes here don't have AC, mine included, so the oil bill will be $0 per month in the summer. My basement/dungeon stays very cool anyway.
Le Gimp
We have spread five bags of grass seed so far this (not quite) spring. The desolation from lake Woebegone is looking pretty bad. I'm hoping grass will take where the water stood 5' deep for two weeks.

I tilled the garden last weekend. all 200sqft of it. I used to have a slightly larger garden at the old house(35 X 30), but there is no room at the new one unless I terrace the back hill. I thought about it, but the cost of stone or blocks is prohibitive.

It looks like it will just be hot peppers and tomatoes this year.
Kirk
I'll go for my usual 10 tomato plants and 10 peppers, onions and carrots, 4 or five broccoli, a watermelon patch , and pumpkins , thats all in a raised bed in my yard . This year though the big spot out back will be all Z. and P. fennel along with a bunch of mellisa. I'm ordering my Wormwood today, I'm going to try to get it established in my scrap land.
DGLeadbetter
Well here in SoCal, it went from winter to summer overnight. Had a cold rainstorm and the next day it shot to over 100 degrees. My wife is pissed off because she planted a bunch of Spring flowers that are now wilting and burning from the heat.

How's that ozone thing working for us?

DG

What's a garden?
Louched Liver
Did a preemptive trim on the hedge.
Whacked off (yeah, that too) the last
of the dead parts of the dianthus.
Stared at the lawn.
Wondered what the fuck that stuff was
coming up that didn't come up last year.
Found some pigeon bones from the hawk's
last meal in the big piney.
Got dog xit on my fingers pickin' up
litter inside the iron fence.
Tasted pretty bad.
