Full Version: My first taste of A.D.N Pontarlier #2

First of all, thanks to the kind souls who, as we say in the business, hooked a brother up.

Now ... I have to say I was a bit skeptical after opening the bottle and taking a whiff .... HOLY CATS!!!!!! This things got a bite to it. I guess at 72 percent, it should have a healthy alcohol smell to it. It's got a nice green color to it, similar to NS 70 ... I poured an ounce and a half into my glass and did a slow drip with a Mickey Mouse sugar cube. I stopped it at 3:1.

The smell was really nice, the alcohol sting when straight was gone, and mellowed into a nice, fresh smell ... not floral, but more herbal. My first sip really wasn't what I was expecting at all ... I thought it was going to bite me back, but instead, it was a warm, pleasant and inviting. This stuff definitely is best enjoyed ice cold, for sure. A couple of ice cubes wouldn't kill it, either.

It's not for the faint of heart, but it shouldn't scare off anyone.

When we first smelled the sample we couldn't believe how much stronger the alcohol came through, but we realized it was just the wide opening of the sample jar that gave it the harshness, the bottle smell is much less so. Its a big improvement over the A.D.N. Pont. and they keep getting better so I can't wait until the next batch is avaliable, MWLF will have multiple samples (including a Fou) if anyone can attend.
DGLeadbetter
I'll try to attend by phone ... perhaps I'll have a few samples to try with the rest of the crowd via the phone.

Hey ... it was worth a shot.

Here's my review: (verbatim from LFV) (and this is the Montpellier version btw)

I did a tasting of the drink neat. I must admit that if there were to be an absinthe I would drink straight, this would be it. The flavor, albeit a little strong at 72% of course, is very warm, spicy, VERY well ballanced, and very electrifying. I was delightfully shocked to say the least.

The following flavors at the following ratios are the sole expressed views of conju, he preferrs his drink diluted at 4:1 ratio with 2 sugars and Ice. For the sake of testing, only one sugar cube was used in this experiment.
@ 3:1: the drinks boquet hadn't completely bloomed yet. I only did a brief testing of it so its hard to say completely, but the flavor was full.

@ 4:1: I found the drink's flavor had almost fully blossomed into a full bodied boquet almost.

@ 4:1 with Ice: It doesn't have the tea quality that I live for as in fougerolles. But it does have a well ballanced, full bodied boquet of herbs, a nice gentle electric quality in the mouth, and very, very smooth going down the esophagus.

The Verdict:
(Lines added for dramatic composure)
....

...

..

.

Wow, I'm afraid fougerolles may have to move over at the top of my list. I am very excited and honored to have the distinct opportunity of not only having the chance to try this art of distillated perfection, but to have it be my first HG sampled as well.

Hey Gang:

Here's a review a did of A.D.N. while sampling it awhile back:

Well, I'm sampling this gem, so I might as well share it here!

Color- Light, bright (vivid but by no means flourescent) beautiful delicate green.

Nose Neat- Very well rounded and fragrant, the alcohol is restrained, and more in the background.
This is akin to inhaling an herbal, floral, and spicy garden, all in one. It is beautifully orchestrated, begining with a spiciness from green anise, and then followed closely by what seems to be a Florence fennel (at any rate, it is of very high quality.)

This is accompanied by a complex mintiness from the wormwood, followed by melissa and coriander.

Nose Louched- Upon louching the nose is similar, but it really opens up, and fills the room with its fragrant esthers! The louche itself is a slightly paler, yet more luminous green than say, the Fougerolles Verte 72, and there is a hint of background whiteness.

The flavor is very full, and beautifully rounded, with the herbal, floral, spicy thing continuing. There is no bite in the finish, so I imagine no star anise was employed in the recipe.

The complex mintiness is QUITE present, indicating to me a relatively high wormwood presence( :--> anyone?).

There is also a marked fennel presence, with coriander in the background.

The body is on the creamy side (at 3:1) and the aftertaste is extremely long and layered continuing the spice-herb-floral sensation.

In summation, I find the A.D.N. Montpellier to be in a league with the Jade- the only REAL Burnt™ absinthe Edouard, but slightly fuller, and more robust in flavor.

I NEED more of this stuff!!!!!!!!!

That was prior to tasting Swizzle, BaMa, and Pignon Verte mind you...

But the suff was STILL damn good!

How large was that boquet (old spelling of "bosquet")? About this large?

Interesting. Thanks, guys.
Perhaps a small sample could be sent to the DC contingent for a DCLF tasting in April?
Perhaps a trade could be organized?
Maybe?
Anyone?
Off. Jack Batemaster
The ADN will be at LCLF for sure.

Why would it be?

Head and I grew up together at Fee

He's a Real Life friend, I flew out there
2 summers ago to visit the King and
Queen. I met him in Michigan, he's flown
here for a visit.

Better use spit -- some things contain only half your DNA¹.

¹Yes, technically, I should have said "only copies of half your DNA genome".
DGLeadbetter
I'd prefer none, thank you.
