That is no redneck fountain. It is too new, doesn't have any duct tape, and has never been used as a poor man's tow chain.

After a hard week's work I'm working hard on getting drunk and doing a pretty good job of it. It's harder than ususal to type. . .
I'm sluggin down some of the house prolsinthe, switched for one glass to the fou juice and almost tossed it in the sink. No comparison if I say so myself.
Got to go to the wifey's where her daughter is cooking and her mother is croakin but I'm packing a bottle with me. Hopefully this will al be over soon and we can take a vacation, meanwhile

Driving school is important, and you are going to get a break on your insurance because you'll be a better driver. How are you going to feel if you miss an important safety point because you were hung over?

Just out of curiosity, what's in that picture frame behind the absinthe?
Is that the label that came with "Absinthe A Myth AlwaysGreen"?
If so, that's a very cool idea.

Apr 2 2004, 07:12 PM
If you put curshed ice in the funnel first, and let it set a few minutes, it locks up into a solid block that stays in place if you pour water on top. The water slowly perculates down through the ice and drips in the glass. I'll post more pix in a minute. Got to get another drink.
I'm drinking a modified Neufchatel.

I also put the envelope and a copy of the e-mail order in the back of the frame. In a hundred years it might be worht the shipping to my decendants. I'm building a foutune for them.
Not!
Next photo.
The real fountain. I am still working on a base, so I used the standard Redneck base as we aways use for holding things up (except sagging breasts).
By the way, I can post larger pix if you think these are too small. I just hate wasting bandwidth. These are 50% reductions.

at 3.5 to 1 it is approaching the level I like. And, the sugar has totally disintegrated (no, not disolved though) and is settling in the bottom of the glass.

I have a question for you, Spuck.
How did you get the hole in the mason jar?

Apr 2 2004, 07:25 PM
I used a copper fitting as the bit, in a drill press (actually a mill, but a drill press would work fine). I used 320 grit valve grinding compound to grind the hole in the Mason Jar (Hence 'Redneck Fountain'). It took about two to three hours to grind the hole in the jar. I might do a multiple fitting jar, using a quart jar (if I can find the right brass spigots)
Sponge Bob
Apr 2 2004, 07:28 PM
OK, so how would you get a hole in a jar using, say a butter knife?

Apr 2 2004, 07:31 PM

Ok. Everyone's been telling me I can't drill into glass.
So I can. But very, very slowly?
I take it my Dremel wouldn't be up to the task.

Damn girl, that's like saying "Duck Tape Won't Fix that". It just ain't true, in fact it may be blasphemy.
Le Gimp
Apr 2 2004, 07:39 PM
The process for producing holes in glass is more of a grinding process than a drilling process. I used a hollow copper tube as the cutting bit.

I ran the mill at 400rpm. You need to have the glass held firmly, and run the feed very slowly while adding fresh grinding compound periodically.
Doing this by hand would be verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry difficult. Not impossible, but you would have to have a very steady hand to do it without a drill press.

I just had a really brilliant flash of insight.
I'm sitting here drinking a glass of HG, and thinking "Damn, this tastes just like the glass of the other batch.". THen I realize that all three bottles I've got taste the same. I'm thinking "What is wrong with my sense of taste if all three differnt batches taste the same?"
Then I realize, Duh! He said they were all the same recipe. One was a single batch, the second was a blend of two batches, and the third was a blend of three batches.
No wonder they taste the same.
So now I'm having a glass of the La-bleu.
Nice delicate flavor. Totally different than the Modified Neufchatel.

If you were drilling it with a dremel or hand drill you could glue a large nut onto the glass with silicone. Fill the nut with water and it will keep your grinding stone or diamond bit cool longer.
