Hi every one, as you can tell from the subject line I am a newbie. I have been wanting to try absinthe for a long long time. Well I finally decided to purchase a bottle of Le Fee. I am now afraid I did so in haste, I have done a lot of reading and researching while waiting for my bottle to arrive I do not hear to many talk about Le Fee. Le Fee claims to be authentic "19th century recipe" When it was all said and done it is costing me $100 to get the shipment. Any feed back on taste and secondary would be greatly appreciated.
Also,
Does any one know of any groups or events that get together in NYC? Are there any places that are BYOB friendly?
Thanks

Read the FAQ.
Also, secondfairies are a crappy reason to buy absinthe. If you want to get high, smoke pot.

Welcome habs.
I too would direct you to the FAQ, as there is a plethora of information located there that will answer many, if not all, of your "getting started" questions.
the FAQ for habsAnd yes, there are some of us in NYC. And yes, we hang out. Search the site for “NYC Crew” and you'll find us.

Oil mixes are considered crap ,
Le Fee is considered the best of the oil mixes.
It's a good place to start ,
many people here started with much worse
and still drink it.
Next time , try Francois Guy or Un Emile.
Welcome.

I will take a look at the FAQ. Secondary is not my reason for trying absinthe, I am merely curious as what to expect if anything in that regards. Thanks

well then, La Fee is known to have some of the strongest secondaries, for those that feel them at all.

I personally like La Fee a lot, but yeah, spend some time reading the FAQ. Also it'll save you from a lot of the following:
Well, you'll still got a lot of those, but welcome anyway.

What's up, Habs. Welcome to the jungle.
Typically, when buying single, commercial bottles—no matter what brand—you can expect to spend upwards of $75. That's just how it goes. Or you can take the desperate, crackhead route—like I did—and drop $60 for a bottle of Oxygenee over at the Frenchman's site.
Your best bet (so as to feel like you're getting your money's worth) is to bite the bullet and drop the dough for a 3-4 bottle order...that way you save a bit on shipping. Stick with the reputable distributors...you'll find out who they are.
Better yet...if you really wanna save dough AND Trip Balz®, just buy some pure Wormwood oil, and mix the entire bottle with Pernod Pastis. Oh, the visuals you will see. Watch for the big, dark, hooded dude with the sickle. Lotsa laffs, that guy.

While we might sound crazy telling you to drop $300+ on a product you've never tried, trust us. If you like absinthe, $300 is a drop in the bucket. You'll kick yourself for not buying a bottle of each from LDF ('cause you will anyway).
My top picks are:
LDF Fudgeroll
LDF Un Emile
Kubler 57%
Kubler 45%
Good luck, thanks for joining, and kiss your wallet (and liver) goodbye.

My first bottle was La Fee as well. It was ok, in fact, id say it was good, but the advice you are getting here is right.
Check out LDF, and be prepared to spend.
Consider yourself lucky you didn’t start Czeckerland.

Thanks every one for their quick replies, warm welcome, and advise. Looks like a lot of folks are screwing off at work as well or maybe thats just me. Don't tell my boss. I am hoping my bottle gets here today, I will let you know how it goes!

$200 will get you three bottles of very good Un Emile, delivered right to your door. Considering you dilute absinthe 1:3/1:5, those will give you a LOT of drinks.
Still, welcome to poverty. Are are enbarking on one of the most expensive hobbies/habits I know of. Crack is far cheaper.

Although I guess consuming my own poop might seem disgusting from a primate perspective. You never know until you try though.
