You know, I didn't mind the bottle I bought ... in fact it wasn't bad at all. My thought is this; try everything you want to try and make your informed buying decisions after ... if you don't want to buy a whole bottle, see if people have the stuff you want to try on trade. That way, you get to try all kinds of stuff without forking out the big bucks.

I'm glad I got to try all the brands I did just to "educate" my palate. Sebor, Ulex, Montana, Deva, Deva 70 ... just don't go after the HG until a little later .... it'll spoil you for anything else. Your wallet will thank you.

I got two bottles of Pernod 68 while I was in Japan last November. I think I paid 3,000 yen each which comes to about $60 for the two bottles all together. For the price that I paid I would say they were not that bad. If I had to pay more I would have most likely passed on them. I agree with DG that one should educate their palate but only if they can afford to drop a few hundred dollars on a thin tasting product! There are so many superior brands out there that you should try. I would suggest looking into the new Verte de Fougerolles, Un Emile 68, the Sapin, Kubler 57 and also the Francois Guy. After that try the New Segarra 68, the Le'mercier Amer 72 and maybe the Libertine. At that point get a bottle of Pernod 68, the Oxygenee', or better yet the La fee'. You have a lot of options these days! Have fun and enjoy!

Ah yes .... I should be getting my ETs today or tomorrow then. Glad I jumped on that band wagon fast. Those 4 bottles won't last long, I'm sure.

From what I understand, Pernot distillery had an exclusive contract with absintheonline, and created a lot of loyalty to absintheonline. Then they started selling it all over the place, and most kind of view it as a faux pas to order from another.

Of course, do what you want. It is a decent product, and worth your time for commercial.

Pernod is one of my least favorites. It's a long way to the bottom of that list.

Persnod is the high thujon Czeckerland version. It is so high in thujon they dropped the e like Filterated Czeckerland Xit, to show it is hardcore.

Seriously though, sir, I hope that this comment was only made in jest and that your presence will be seen and felt at this 'Louchefest' thing that I've read about!

As for Pernod, I've had a few bottles of it and it's not too bad in my uneducated opinion. For what you'd most likely pay for it ($60.00 or so), I think it's ok to try and then decide for yourself. It's not like you're blowing $100.00 - $150.00 on something you're not sure you'll enjoy.

Now the Pernod pastis, that's a different story. It's not that great and you'll pay $20.00 for it.

I'd say try the Pernod Absinthe, for namesake purposes, and then move on to something like Segarra, Kubler and Emile.

They both taste like xit.

Pernod 68 is one of the most disappointing Absinthes there is.

I originally heard that Pernod 68 was almost the same as La Fee - as far as oil mixes go. It's not, it's pretty horrible compared to La Fee.
