Let me be the first (well, the first on here) to raise a toast

Thanks for the kind wishes, folks!
It is much appreciated. Perhaps the little ladies will be in attendence at DCLF 06'. I doubt Madelyn would be ready next year.
My wife and baby are still in the hospital (until tomorrow), so my "big girl" of 2 years (tomorrow) and I celebrated this evening. We had soup and cheeseburgers out on the deck. I drank some absinthe and she had water. We watched the bunny rabbits and birds.
She knows how to clink glasses (or glass to sippy cup to be accurate) and say "Cheers".

Yes. Everything seems to be in order and working appropriately. I have both deafness and polydactyly in my family, so the digit count and hearing tests were of particular concern. Good to go so far. Well, that is, until the stubborness on both sides starts manifesting itself.
On the bright side, Madelyn has even beaten her older sister's record for sleeping, which was remarakble. So far, she has slept 6-7 hours through the night her first three nights. We'll see if she can match Lucy's consistency. Our older daughter has only missed about 5 full-night sleeps in 2 entire years. So we are spoiled rotten by how easy she was to raise.
Here's to another good, easy baby!

Cheers to you and your big girl for me (I'm also using a sippy cup tonight). And best wishes to mom and Ruperta!

After LCLF, perhaps you should use a sippy cup every night . . . heh heh
Of course, I want the bottle with built-in breathalyzer. Something that gives a warning when I'm approaching blackout and says, "STOP DRINKING! STOP DRINKING! EAT FOOD!"
You know, so I can remember who . . . er, what I did and drank and ate.
I'm still wondering where that

came from.

I remember watching my friend's daughter learning to read from a whiskey bottle.
"Sound it out," he would say.

If you weren't my pal, I'd have gone there (with the joke, that is). But then there's a fair chance that someday I'll meet your daughter and I don't want you hovering over me with a ball bat.
Justin, it's been a long time since I felt anything but grateful that my kids are both grown and married, but this just brought up some really disgustingly tender memories of daddy-hood. (don't go there, Trainer)
Congrats!

Oh, and I'm interested in the "at least" -- what kind of superlative of marriage did you have in mind

Justin
Apr 26 2004, 10:59 AM
Her older sister is sort of ambivalent so far. She knows who the baby is, and has a connection between the baby and the name. There have been a few cute moments of her kissing the baby and such, but not many.
Mostly, I think she is waiting for Madelyn to be able to do something besides have a stupid expression, look for boobies, drink, cry and poop.
Hmm... that pretty much described the lounge, didn't it?

Most definitely her father's daughter.
If that depresses your wife (esp. now): it appears evolution always makes human kids look like their (biological) father at birth, just to make evading responsibilities harder, but she'll grow up to look like her mother, too.
Congrats.
