Honey-Wheat ale and Maple Porter from Wagner Valley Brewery in Lodi, NY in the Finger Lakes. Next up, some 2002 Delaware Wine (a white grape variety from the NY Finger Lakes region) with dinner, mushroom/onion quiche, salad and bread with olive oil infused with fresh herbs and garlic and cheese on the side.
After dinner I don't know yet.

Stone Old Guardian.
The bottle states that it is "Limited Winter '04 Release!!". Furtheremore it is specified as a "Barley Wine STyle ALe, 10.06% Alc Vol.
I'll read the insulting back label later.
Nice beer. Good malty flavor. Young beer with a pronounce bitter up front. It should age well and mellow to be a kick ass beer by 2005.
I'm gona buy a couple more bottles (220z) tomarrow to stash.

Yes, I sure have tried the Chartreuse V.E.P.!!!
It is much smoother, and softer than the regular, which I find has a hitch, in mid-taste...
This makes sense, since the brothers age it for a full 12 years before bottling!
Unfortunately, it now runs about $120 a bottle...up until about a year ago, I used to be able to get it for $76!
I hate rampant inflation!
Still, even at $120, you owe it to yourself to try a bottle, someday.
Honestly, if the brothers made an unsweetened version of the V.E.P. (the heavy sugaring is, to me the only drawback), I might almost be willing to give up my absinthe.
Almost.

Does aging help mellow the regular green Chartreuse?
If the VEP is as oversweetened as the regular green, I think I'll save my $ . . .

Yes the aging helps mellow the regular green Chartreuse considerably...
However, it is just as sweet. I made the mistake of drinking a third of a bottle at one sitting...I prayed profusely to the great porcelain god for forgiveness, believe me.
However, it's delicious, taken one cordial glass at a time...much more refined, and softer than the regular!!!

For shame, Absomphe. You should know better than referring to deviants as "defective" They're now called differently ective. Defective sounded too much like defecate.
Oh, wait a minute. I guess defective is the right term after all.

You love a great Barleywine? I'm sippin' a 2001 Leviathan, from Fish Brewing, in Olympia, Wa. right now...bottle conditioned, it was aged for 6 months in wine casks that used to hold Hungarian Cab Franc...loads of Chinook hops for bittering, Cascades for aroma, and ESB, and crystal malt for body...it's aged incredibly...thick, creamy head, and a really rounded complex, fruity palate, with killer, (but not overkill) hops in the finish...

Today's poison ( as opposed to poisson

) is another Fish Brewing masterpiece, the 2001 Poseidon Imperial Stout, aged in French wine casks that previously held Cabernet.
This stuff is at peak now. I originally had a case, and this is my last bottle, which is sad. Originally, it was really hoppy, and roasty, but now some of the hops have eased off, and the chocolate malt has come to the fore. While still being very roasty, it is more dry than hoppy, and there is more of a presence of really dark fruits, particularly figs. The body is wonderfully creamy, and the head is dark tan, and leaves a great lace. The finish is remarkably long, and mouthcoating.
I've sampled the 2003, and it just doesn't (and I don't think it will ever) live up to this one.

Dentist day today. Started of with about 3 quickies, (quickie = shots half HG half water), about 3 regular glasses, a 10mg valium half way to the dentist and 2 more drinks in the parking lot and I'm ready for the visit. Another drink afterwards and I'm headed home
Now, after a nap I think it's coffee time, maybe an eyepoener.

just the valium. Gas if I want it but I really don't like it. I started with her because she is a dental surgeon and what I wanted was to be knocked out. Still, she gives out plenty of valiums and I got good booze.
This fou juice is pretty good for eyepoeners. I do a fou "quickie" and then drink the coffee - life returns.
