Old Crustacean is a Barley Wine, not an IPA. Lots of residual starch to balance the IBUs.
Roague makes some tastey beer.

Raindog,
That would be a tough choice. I like the things I have gotten from Portugal but that is one purty knife!

Burn does good work, he is doing his take on the elusive Latama "square button" stilletto, (originals can go for ten grand plus)..........There are a few good makers on a private switchblade forum, that do excellent work.

Back on topic...
A glass of Blackstone Merlot
A bottle of Beringer Napa Sauvignon Blanc '02 (yummy)
A glass of Freixinet Brut Cava
A glass of Moonman #27
A glass of fudgeroll..
Now it's either back to the Freixinet or visiting my very small supply of Markus LB.

That Blackstone Merlot is pretty tasty for the price.
I think I'll be drinking a bottle of wine for dinner tonight.

Crapsinthe #2 here.
It ain't really absinthe, no distillation and all . . . but it's green, not unpleasant, has plenty of wormwoody goodness, and I feel . . . um . . . weird.
The mysterious and elusive 2ndaries? Hmm.
Oh, and it's way cheap and 100% legally obtained/produced. I think that's the best part, so far. It ain't no Fudgierolls. Heck, it ain't no NS 70.
Fortunately, it also ain't no Logan Filth. At least it's the right color and isn't horrifyingly bad tasting.

SNPA is the only commercial beer that I buy on anything like a regular basis. I usually have a partial sixpack in my refrigerator.
Then again, I use it as a yeast culture. Pour two bottles in a big glass, rinse the bottles iwth starter and dump it in a flask. Let it ferment out a couple of days and add to a larger starter and in three days it is ready to pitch.

Apr 30 2004, 12:54 PM
Doesn't it also have one of the cleanest yeasts available? I've used WYeasts version of it to start off Belgian styled fruit beers.
It's Friday, so we drink at work...3 Red Hook ESBs. Another few hours and I'll be drinking at G&C's place.

Apr 30 2004, 01:02 PM
Yes. It is supposed to be the same as WY 1056 or WLP001. Reputed to have been used by Ballentine I think. Very neutral yeast. Ferments well down to around 60F, maybe a tad lower. Moderate alcohol tolerance, although I can't imagine making a BW with it.
I'm currently using it to try to make a Ballentine XXX Pale ale clone.

I've used it for the primary, then add the Belgian yeast and fruit to the secondary.

Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA...
It's an imperial pale ale...no, it's a barleywine...it's really bitter...no, it's really sweet...it's layered with fruity goodness...yup, that's it! Amazing complexity, finesse, and warming quality...one bottle'll do ya.
Oh, and the 20+% alcohol, doesn't hurt it either.
Skeeter...Barkley Haggen...and it goes for $8.85 for a 12 oz. bottle...except the idiotboy checkout guy thought that meant, for a sixpack, and charged me $1.75 per bottle!
I love the clueless!!!!!

Hmm, tough night on this fella but needing to take place for a while.
Started with the 2nd to last glass of NS55
Followed with last glass of MM#26 mixed with the last of #25.
Down to the last of my Felix, tastey-super-tastey I want more, even if it's leftovers.
Finally down to my 2nd to last glass of Swizzlé.
Sad night, but a reckonin', and a reckonin' done need to be made. Viva la Commercial xit Sitting in my Cabinet!

The Medicinal Value of Absinthe?
I just discovered it tonite. I have a really bad cold right now. When I have a cold, I don't like to drink (well...very much at least). The alcohol; be it wine beer, whiskey, or whatever always tastes bitter and leaves me feeling worse than before I drank it.
But tonite, I thought, "I'll give Absinthe a try". It tasted great and I feel better than before I drank it!

Where are Lake and Palmer?
SNPA is a tad hoppy for some people. It is a very nice example of the west coast intrepretation of an American Pale Ale though.
PNW Pale Ale tends to be a bit strong on the expression of C-hop aroma and flavor.
Endo IPA is pretty good for a local beer. It is brewed in Asheville NC I think. I don't have a bottle to check right now.
Home made PIzza and beer for dinner. Followed by Habanero Brownies and beer for desert. Half a dried Hab is just enough to be almost too much.

I walked into work this week to see the office manager wearing a flowered shirt that was very vaguely familiar -- Replied, "Hey, my favorite Hawaian shirt is made out of that same material!" The rest of the time, every time I talked to her, I always ended it with "...thank-you Don Juan!" She got mad at first, but then I reminded her that at least I wasn't calling her Don Knotts!
Cool shirt, hope she wears it again, but got a gut-feeling she won't. Still my fave Hawaiian shirt!
