I saw a blurb on FSC's page about Poteen. Anyone tried it? Thoughts?

Yep. I got a bottle of the 90%. There description is wrong, it only comes in a 500ml bottle. It smells kind of like Vanilla. I didn't taste it, it's 90% alcohol.

I was thinking of picking up one of the lower proof versions. Probably the 60%, actually, so I could taste it. If I wanted neutral grain spirits at high proof, I'd just buy Everclear. But I could understand someone using it otherwise, in the situation where everclear isn't available. Probably way pricey though.

It seems like it's pretty good quality stuff. Too expensive - I won't buy it again.

Dude, you bought poitín?? Any HG'er can make it. It's just the from the Land of Bogs equivalent of moonshine, only made with potatoes (earlier, it was probably made from barley).
Edit: I also found some recipes including oats. Pretty much, poitín=from the Land of Bogs vodka.

To be dedicated, you have to make sacrifices...those sacrifices usually require piles of cash. Research is expensive.

About 5 years ago, I bought some that came in a little white ceramic jug. I can't remember the brand but I do remember that I had one glass and never touched it again. I left it behind when I moved from that place to the next apartment.

First and only time.
I could find no use for it.
If I were an arsonist, perhaps I could have thought of something.

Research is expensive.
Get the money from Butty is exchange for making her the exclusive American supplier of poteen -- a bargain at only $250/liter.
Just remember to dilute it.
If its not watered down and overpriced, its not Butty's.

I don't want to try Butty anywhere, let alone at a Bennigans.
I've never been that drunk.

Oh. Well that's different. I've had their Mead. Not bad although I prefer a dryer style.

That may be the one I tried.
It was in a squat little crock but the design looks the same.

yep. they also sell it in crocks.
i bought a bottle at buratty castle when i was in ireland.
then my wife realized she bought a ton of gifts for her mother, and none for her father......so me being the nice(read:stupid) guy, i told her she could give her father my bottle.
so i STILL haven't tried any.
i'll try some at bennigan's one of these days.

You're really not missing much.
I'd take crap from the Land of Bogs whiskey over that stuff anyday.
