I don't know. Have you looked at it? It might actually debunk the same myths that give its title so much potential marketing power.

That was the 1st book about absinthe that I ever read. I found it an interesting read. I can, if nothing else, credit that book with sparking my interest in the subject.

Edit: And unfortunately it only perpetuates the myths.

That's fantastic for Oxy!

Well, the "Book Description" says:

QUOTE
Absinthe produced a sense of euphoria, similar to the effect of cocaine and opium, but was addictive and caused a rapid loss of mental and physical faculties. Despite that, Picasso, Manet, Rimbaud and Wilde were among those devoted to the "green fairy," and produced writings and art influenced by absinthe.

deam, since you have actually read this goober of yellow journalism, why not log on to the amazon.com site and be the first to submit a REVIEW of the book?

It'll give you a chance to angrysoapbox.sml do some debunking, and steer people toward accurate information instead of Art Bell-type schlock.

Normally I would. The problem is: I signed that book out of the library sometime in 1999 and have read a bunch of other books on absinthe in the meantime. That means that there's a possibility that, if I review the book, I might be unwittingly reviewing parts from other books as well.

So here's what I'm going to do: head down to the library and sign the book out again THEN write a review. Just give me a week or so...
