Right. If you haven't read them yet, stop reading this and go do so. Or you'll be sorry.
This post is a warning that we are going to Give Away The Ending of Dark Tower books and such.
So go away if you ain't read them. Shoo!

So, did anyone else find the self-reference thing kind of neat, then cute, then shut-up-already and get to the fight scene-ey?

I wanted to give this thread plenty of time before I responded, still a warning.
If you haven’t finished Song of Susannah read no further.
No, really.

I found the self-reference thing a little annoying in principal. It is the kind of mechanism that will allow anything to be explained.
Then I thought a bit about the entire tale, in fact most of his books, and realized that I had suspended disbelief some time ago, no sense in going back now.
Still, I think it was a bit self indulgent.
On the other hand, I wonder how long SK has had this in mind. He claims that he learns the stories as he writes them. But many of his books have been cross-connected for a long time. The Stand, Eyes of the Dragon, DT series, Insomnia all have solid connections, and in some cases reference each other.
The one thing I really do not get, is on the last page, showing the SK died when the Van hit him. The obvious explanation is, that happened in one of the parallel "whens" and not the primary or "true" one. Still It left me wondering if there isn’t some other major twist laying in the last book that will change the paradigm that SK built in this book.

The more I think about it, the more I think it was the real King who died.
Meaning Roland and company are fucked.

I agree, that whole self indulgence scene was just a bit too extensive. I enjoyed the story thouroguly though. I'm a little pissed at the length though, and think I'll probably get the concordance to tide me over in the meantime.

About halfway through it now. Skipped over your posts above. Just wanted to bump this and say I am loving it.
Oh, and last night, I just read that 'Eddie would never get the chance to ask him, as death would fall between them before he got the chance.' (paraphrasing).
Man, I hope Eddie doesn't die. I was figuring Susannah would, given the title.
No spoiling for me!
