On Tuesday night we were supposed to go out to dinner with Porkpie +1 to L'Absinthe, but they were real busy. Without knowing where to go (besides Nathan's on Coney Island) we decided to check it out.
We had to wait for a table so we sat at the bar and I ordered the best Gin and Tonic I've ever had. I noticed the Versinthe Fountain and modern glasses sitting right next to me. There were various artifacts on the walls and on shelves, so I asked the bartender if they had any vintage Absinthe bottles. She said they didn't have any because they have Wormwood, which is a poison. She pointed to an Absente bottle. It doesn't contain Wormwood. I told her I meant empty antique bottles. She said that they didn't.
We were seated by an extremely rude French waiter. I didn't take it personally - he was rude to everyone else in the restaurant. I had Veal, Brains in Anise sauce and Wild mushrooms. The Mrs. had some Red Fish and Beet salad. The food was excellent. I tipped the waiter $22, despite what Dinky would have recommended.

Why would you tip someone for lousy service?
The only tip a jackass like you describe would get from me is the suggestion that he take customer service training. Or go back to EuroFuckyLand.

Sorry again that we missed you. Angela didn't make it home till 10 that night, and I got stuck late too.
L'Absinthe's food is very good, but a bit steeply priced. There's another restaurant in SF also called Absinthe which is a little cheaper, and they have a full bottle of Pre-Ban Pernod in glass case (though they also have an older bottle of Hill's in a glass case too, YIKES!!!).
A free newspaper in NYC (AM New York) recentlly ran an article on L'Absinthe. In it they interviewed the chef, and he said Absinthe had a Cannabis like effect, and that its green colour came from the wormwood, which is a poison.

We just had a place called Absinthe open recently, combination bar and restaurant.
If I can get over there in the next day or so, I'll go see what the place is like.

I love the Absinthe Bistro here in SF. I was a regular for awhile a few years ago. It was nice because the bartender already knew who I was when we started chatting. And initually the french host was very rude to us too, but we kept going back friday after friday and eventually became his little pets. He would even tell people they had to get off bar stools so we could sit down.
Look, here he is on Halloween, dressed as a decapitated French Aristo in digs bought at the Opera's fire sale:

Maybe we'll check it out for LCLF 05, which I'm hoping will be held somewhere in Northern California.

Your apartment building would be a good spot for it.

Yeah, I'm onto you.
I'm glad I carpe'd the ol' diem and met up with the Nor Cal Contingent when I had the chance (even though you were all plotting against me from the beginning — I see how it is).

I'm moving into the house the mother-in-law left us. It's an early '20's house that's a cross between renaissance revival and mission style and we're fixing it up with that period in mind. A nice yard and plenty of parking too. It would be a good place for a LF by next summer (and not far from the beach for survivors).
The waiter has nice legs. I wonder how hard it would be to break into that restaurant and replace the bottle of preban, (such a waste).

I was looking for the segway from legs to pre-ban.
Couldn't find it.

It's a 4 glass segway.

(Maybe that bottle could grow legs.)
