All this talk of sex, smutt and Jade- the only REAL Burnt™ absinthe, I just have to post my NO review.
I recently procured a bottle of Nouvelle Orleans from LdF. Upon receiving the bottle I began to masturbate violently at the sight of it. I had been having wet dreams about it for months now, and now it is actually here. The bottle itself is a thing of beauty. I ran my free hand across the stunning vintage label, on up to the dripping wax seal and down the classic curves of the bottle, reminiscent of the the Bety Page's voluptuous ass. I fumbled around the kitchen for a corkscrew, almost tripping over my pants that had bundled up around my ankles. I oh so gently deflowered the virgin bottle, removing the cork, to reveal her inner beauty. The scent was not at all like the Czeckerland whore piss, I had cum accustomed to. It was like summers eve had filled my kitchen. Baby powder fresh, it must be the high quality Hyssop.
The color was a lovely lime green, not unlike the spandex cycling shirt I was wearing. Upon adding around 1.5 parts ice water the louche began at the bottom, and slowly worked it's way to the top, just like I like to do with the wimmins. This unleashed more of it's beautiful bouquet, and I almost louched myself as well. I had to wait until I could taste this green vixen.
I ran my tongue gently around the rim of the glass, getting just a small taste of la fee verte's love juices. I proceeded to tip the glass to my mouth, ever so slowly, taking the milky liquid into my mouth.
Amazing! What can I say, by balls filled with excitement upon the taste. All the herbs blended so nicely, quality wormwood, green anise, fennel, all in perfect balance. I could not help but finish the glass, and finish my self as well.
This is by far the best thing I have ever put in my mouth. My wife, on the other had may beg to differ.
I think I will pour another glass. I just hope my balls are up to it.

Abby-I forgot about these filteres. That makes it even funnier, but vomit inducing as well.
Glassy-A very intentional pun.
I wrote this before I actually got to taste the NO, here's my real review. I still like the first one better.
Upon removing the cork the first thing I noticed was the grape alcohol base. The scent was quite similar to a good Arak or other liquors with a grape base. It was very pleasant, and had very little alcohol heat. It's very smooth tasted neat, I taste mainly the grape alcohol base, anise and fennel, along with a few other herbs in the background. The color was a perfect natural lime green.
The louche began around 1/1.5 or 1/2 and slowly worked it's way from bottomto top, releasing it's wonderful perfume. I sampled it around 1/4 and it had a bit too much heat, and a very strong anise presence. I added more water to around 1/5 to 1/6, and it tasted much better. Very easy to drink, and I could taste more of the other herbs come through the background. This absinthe is much more concentrated than the Un Emile's or Fougerolles. I can add quite a bit more water, and still end up with more flavor in my glass. This is by far the best commercial Absinthe I have tasted, and is definately on par with some of the better unmentionables I have had, if not better.

I've come to the conclusion that, in a way, the NO is more dynamic, than the SV...not only because the SV is a Berger Clone, but also because there are a few top drawer HGs I've sampled (mostly a bit too ardently), that remind me, to various degrees, of the SV.
The NO, on the other hand, seems to be a real oner, and on a pure herbal-spice pleasure front, is actually the more complex of the two.
Bottomline, they each have their strongpoints...REALLY strong...and I'd order either of regularly.

if i remember correctly, he said "it's ok"
or was that just in reference to the SV?
finally cracked the NO myself, and it's better than i remembered it. as noted, the flavors seem to expand with dilution. i'm hoping Ned can get around to releasing the gorgon or something along those lines one of these days. i've a feeling you lot would really get a kick out of that one... experimentation with and input from may have led to this more dynamic release of NO (as talk of cinnamon, cardomon, etc certainly hints at), though that's just speculation on my part. it was a definite thought in my mind though as i tasted that first glass of NO.

Quick review- since I've been too busy drinking the Jade- the only REAL Burnt™ absinthes to spend time being over critical.
Keep in mind I'm not judging these absinthes by commercial standings. I'm comparing them in my head w/ the best absinthes I've ever tasted.
Corks - No problem. I used a rabbit. Sure they're soft, just take your time.
The N.O. - Great labeling. Tastewise it's OK. Kinda boring. I've only had 2 glasses of it, so really can't get too deep.
The Berger clone - Much better. It's initial flavor reminds me of a blend of good Suisse LB and VDF. It's clean, has an excellent base alcohol roundness, and just hint of bitterness to cleanse the palate at the end. I could drink this on a regular basis. It should age really well. I'll have to get another bottle and store it for a year.

I'll cut and pasted my review at feeverte.
My thanks to the gracious member who sent me a sample of the VS65.
I'll go ahead and present my critique.
The color was a bit brighter than I expected but I was comparing it to Fougerolles which is a bit more olive drab. It is quite a vibrant green.
Louche became first evident at about 1.5 or 2:1
At 3: 1 I could smell the 'perfume' in it. The glass was about two feet away. It has a wonderful light floral perfume (Hyssops?). I tasted it at 3.5:1, but found it to be too strong for me to enjoy. The alcohol was noticeable, but not offensively so. The anise/fennel seemed quite strong at this ratio. The taste was too small of a sip to get much of the wormwood at this ratio.
At 4.5 : 1 it still tasted a bit strong. I stopped adding water at 5:1. Here the flavors seemed in good balance, strong enough to enjoy but not yet thinning out from too much water.
The mouth feel is denser than I expected from my limited experience.
The flavors start with anise/fennel and Hyssops. Tis is followed afterwords by the Wormwood. I can only describe it as a flat/bitter (low bitterness) sensation in the middle back of my tongue. The finish is dry with a returning perfume/floral sensation.
No one flavor really dominates. There is a gradual undulation of the intensity of the flavors which rise and subsides without abrupt discontinuities.
Wonderful!

I tried another glass of the Jade- the only REAL Burnt™ absinthe NO last night, here are my thoughts:
I kept hearing how "bright green" it is in other reviews. It really isn't any "brighter green" than some HGs. It does appear to have more of a bluish tint than other naturally colored Absinthes when neat. I previously speculated that if there is a "secret ingredient" it's probably used in the coloration.
Neat, it smells familiar - not really of perfume nor herbs, but similar to some of Butty's clandestine La Bleues. Something smells slightly burnt and I think it's the alcohol base. The marc producer is probably running it too fast. There's also a slight tinge of nastiness, which smells kind of like the breath of a 20 year old alley cat with rotten teeth. It's slight now; a few days ago it was a bit more present. It's similar to the fish funk smell of the early Emiles. I think it may have something to do with the distillation technique or possibly still shock. It should completely age out with time.
At 1:3.5 it louches quite well. The color is similar to other naturally colored HGs. I do not really detect a "perfumey" scent. The VS seemed to have more "perfume." The wine base is a bit overpowering and there is a slight "burnt" smell, but no fish funk.
It's not quite as smooth as I expected after reading other reviews. It's somewhat astringent, but no more so than an early HG. Considering the wine base, I would expect it to smooth out after several months of aging. The Anise is very good; I like the Fennel; the Wormwood is mediocre. I detect a slight bitterness which makes me think that there is a healthy dose of Wormwood in this recipe, but I just don't really taste it. There is something burnt and I think it may be slightly empyreumatic wine spirits. I'm not sure if this will age out or not.
At 1:4 - 1:4.5, it still has a slightly alcoholic bite. The "burnt" flavour is minimized, but the wine spirits are still overpowering. This seems totally insane that I would be saying this since I've been a big fan of grape/wine spirtis, but it seems a bit much in a Verte. It seems to Masque the coloration herbs.
Overall, I enjoy it quite a bit. I would put it in the same league as the Butty #3. It reminds me quite a bit of some of the Swiss LBs, but it's less expensive. The recipe and some of the quality of the ingredients has really got me thinking.
