But, "Reflections of Evil" takes the cake for Indi films. Most hate it, but I think it's pure genius.

Hmm, my alltime favorite movie it 'The man who broke a 1000 chains' with 'Real Genius' running a close second. For some reason Val Kilmer impressed me years ago and has managed to do some great movies (a couple stinkers, but not because of him)

It's a seven way tie between The Thin Red Line (Mallick), Fargo (Coens), Leaving Las Vegas (Figgis), Amelie (Jeunet), A Clockwork Orange (Stan the man), The Elephant Man (Lynch), and Brazil (Gilliam).
Best animation does go to the Brothers Quay though, like Peeps said. That's some mind bending stuff.
Most disturbing film ever made goes to Irreversible. I'm not kidding. Makes Testuo Iron Man look like an episode of the Muppet Babies. I like it a lot but it is VERY tough to watch.

amazing movie.
Here I am describing to my wife(who really doesn't like violent movies too much) why she shouldn't watch it:

Interestingly enough, female critics in general thought Irreversible was a good film, it was the male critics who cried foul and said it should be banned and that it was offensive and all that. Every female I know who saw it said it was brutal, but kind of necessary in a way, because it's the only film out there that actually gets across to the audience exactly what it is like to be raped.
