i was excited to hear that tim burton was doing a remake, but this looks really fucking lame.

Charlie & the Chocolate Factory
Oscar
Roland Dahl meets Austin Powers. Anything for a buck.

i REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY hope that it's not 1/20th as bad as that HUGE piece of shit Cat in the Hat movie.

i didn't know whether to vomit, commit suicide, cry, or track down Myers and kill him.

i mean, it's not like he NEEDS money that badly.

i think if he went to Geisel's gravesite, shit on the casket & smeared feces all over the headstone it would be much less offensive than what they did to his story in that movie.

i guess myers figured that the fucking abortion that jim carey did with the grinch wasn't enough? might as well ruin ALL of his stories!!!

end of rant.
Rimbaud
I refuse to watch either of those live-action Seuss atrocities.

How about a new movie: Mike Myers vs. Michael Myers.

BlackHat
That would be one worth paying to see.

I just watched the preview. I'm really disappointed. After hearing that Depp & Burton were doing it I was expecting a darker twist to it (such as the boat ride, knife seller, and slugworth scenes). It looks like a slapstick piece of crap with Depp made up like an androgenous puppet.
Grey Boy
When isn't he?
Porkio
Well, remember it is Warner Brothers doing the movie, and they want it to make at least $200 million so they're engineering the trailer to be as gay as possible so that it appeals to the Barney the Dinosaur crowd of 5 year olds and Downs Syndrome patients. I'd say it's probably a poor representation of the actual movie.

I'm sure it's better than the trailer. As long as it doesn't have that AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL song playing in it it can't possibly be as pukey as the trailer.

The people who do trailers are entirely independent of the director, and are usually droolcups hired by the studio to deceive people about the movie.
BlackHat
One can only hope.
BlackHat
So aside from the common commercial tie in of a video game (which will be released in concurrence with the movie), Nestle will release candy bars specifically for the movie.

Supposedly it is not a musical.

There are certain details in the trailer that appear truer to the novel than the original movie, and the book is much more twisted and fucked up than the original movie, but after what Burton did to Planet of the Apes (ruined the fuck out of it!!!), I'm skeptical...

Say it a third time, and Sponge will appear in your bathroom mirror.

Saw it Friday. Liked it.

It's not a musical. But it IS weird. And the ending is different from the Gene Wilder version. (I haven't read the novel.) It definitely has more of a dark humor to it, and the children deeply deserve what they get!

Depp's Willy Wonka seems like the love child of Michael Jackson and Mr. Rogers. Just not particularly good with children.

The Oompah-Loompahs are pretty creepy. You'll see why.
DGLeadbetter
Depp said he modeled Wonka after Marilyn Manson & a game show host. Sounds about right from what I've seen.
