I saw a preview for season 2 along with some mini-interviews with the characters and all I can say is...
Holy Shit!
This season looks freakin' awesome! If you didn't see the first season well... I'm sorry to hear that.
Seriously, with those Christmas Gift Certificates you'll be getting... buy the season 1 DVD box set and watch the damn thing.
Management says so...

HBO has been replaying the first season--so some folks might have been brought up to speed. If you haven't been watching--too late. It looked like they finished up this last week.
Those who did--grab a glass of your favorite green beverage

and watch---Jan 6th, I believe?

Do you think Butty could be a lead character in it?

Did anyone catch the season premiere?
It was freaky and cool and dark and just a great hour of TV. But here's where I've turned into such an Absinthe wuss.
I was so looking forward to watching this, I thought I'd celebrate with some Absinthe. So I found that I had enough
Serpis left for 3 glasses using about 1.5 oz in each glass.
I couldn't wait to try out my new drip fountain... it's simply a very LARGE (24") decanter with a spicket... works great!
So I settled in to watch Carnivale and had a glass. Then I had another and the show was over.
So I'm flipping through the channels and find 'The Agony and the Ecstacy' from 1965 with Charlton Heston as Michelangelo. This seemed perfect and to 'celebrate' my finding of yet another quality TV program I decided to finish off the last of this
Serpis.
A half hour later...
...
...
I fell asleep in front of the TV and woke up at 2:30am.
I was planning on having a cigar... jumping on here to see what was up and having another drink of something.
Nope.Hi, my name is David and I'm an Absinthe wuss.

I thought it was excellent too. I made the mistake of watching the horribly written and obnoxiously directed season premiere of "24" an hour before Carnivale, and it was so refreshing to have Carnivale to switch to at 9.
I'm really looking forward to what happens next. Carnivale was slow moving at first but it's getting pretty serious now.
What I found particularly interesting was the reference to the Gospel of Matthias, which Father Justin's follower gave to him after he cut his hand. The Gospel of Matthias, which is one of the apocryphal texts excluded from the Bible, was declared a heretical text by the Church around 600 AD, and supposedly it contaied "secret" prophecies Jesus gave to a disciple named Matthias who replaced Judas after Judas betrayed Jesus. The Gospel of Matthias was supposedly lost nearly 1300 years ago, and there's only 2nd hand accounts of what it contains.

Great book. Leonardo DiCaprio owns the film rights to it and he wants to produce it soon. I think that book would be practically impossible to pull off on film though. Carnivale seems influenced by the book in some ways, though the premise in the book of parents experimenting with toxic substances to breed their own freak show is way cooler than any supernatural shit carnivale contains.

I agree. I can't imagine how a film could do the book justice. Maybe if Tim Burton directed and Danny Elfman did the soundtrack. I'd probably see it three times anyway. Throw Jean Reno in there somewhere and I'd see it five.

I dunno- Tim Burton rewls and all, but his movies are always a bright, cheery kind of dark.
I think it needs maybe a 'Leaving Las Vegas' kind of director.

Too bad Mike Figgis hasn't really made anything that good since Leaving Las Vegas (which I would put on my top 5 all time movies list, BTW.
The director I would pick to do Geek Love would be Jean-Pierre Jeunet (Amelie, City of Lost Children, Delicatessen, etc), or Guillermo Del Toro (Devil's Backbone, Hellboy).

Never seen it. Drives me crazy. Makes me want to subscribe for HBO, but since the cable company says we are over 60 days due on our payment (which is HORSE SHIT! WE PAID IT AT 45 DAYS, they just don't wanna cash our checks), that ain't gonna happen. Actually, at this point, I am just glad I still have internet, since it's the same company.
Did I mention I have not seen Carnivale ever at all yet?

I saw an interesting segment on Deadwood on the History Channel. Interesting little town that was. Right in territory that belonged to the Indians, so the US Govt didn't give a flying Fuck what went on there. It looks like the movie is the very early years of Deadwood before the big mining businesses set up.
