Can this be true!
QUOTE
Dr. Martens are no better than just cheap Nikes now... I've been loyal to the Dr. Marten 8-eye for over 15 years... and now they're MADE IN CHINA!!!! Good to know that a symbol of my life can also be outsourced to China. I will never buy a pair of Docs ever again and I'll be sure that my friends don't either. Where's the loyalty Doc?!?!?!
QUOTE
laura.... I used to love these boots... but then they went to China.... Hands down inferior compared to the boots made in England. My last pair had a sticker from Laura... assuring their quality.... now they are made in China... fall apart... and HURT...

I say we all protest!!!

I better stop kicking people with my steel toe paratroopers and save them for posterity!!!

Docs quality has steadily declined for the last few years. After the sole split on my 7 month old pair 2 years ago, I ditched them and now wear Fluevogs instead, which are more comfortable and look better anyway. And they're made in Poland & Portugal.

Smittty, you dumass! Doc Martens are just shoe soles. The upper can be made by anyone.

Nah, Docs are the whole boot! The original pit boots!!!
Ahhh, the good ol' days. My first pair were ox blood and dyed every pair of socks I owned red. Which, ultimately, turned everything white I owned pink on laundry day. For a while I thought it was an act of God. I was moments away from taking it as a sign to shoot the president, (or something) when a good friend clued me in. After that, I vowed to never wear Docs again and to dye my any other color but blonde.
Since then Iv'e been a fricken peacock!
...er, um,
peahen.

Um, no Smuttty. That hasn't been the case for years - we're talking about this being the case since the 70s. You're arguing with the wrong guy about this. I have a pair of steel toed 12 holes circa 1972. I have at least 8 pairs and none of the uppers were made by Doc Martens, only the sole and the outside tag.

The only people I saw in the pits wearing DM's were stupid-ass wanna-be skins. Never had a pair for that reason. Nothing I couldn't do wearing a pair of Chuck Taylors or my GI issue boots back then. I used to like the magazine ad with the Bobbie chasing the hooligan in them, but when I rode with an Officer in the UK I never saw any of them wearing DM's. For work and riding, I'll stick with Matterhorns, ideally I'd wear these to work, but the regs won't allow it...

Those look comfy, Hans. Our regs are strict, too. We can't wear anything but nasty flight deck boots with fod-free tread. They are heavy, clunky and make your feet sweat like crazy. What kills me is the Air Force is stationed here too, and they wear what the hell they please. I've seen some of them wearing Docs before, too.

What's funny is I never had a problem with any of the uppers for my previous Docs, only the soles. Maybe I just walk funny...

Well, Smuttty - they do have shoe factories in England. They also have lots and lots of spare cows.

We can call it an, "from the Land of Bogs teabag".

Actually, substitute Wild Turkey for Blanche and Wild Turkey for Cointreau, throw in a

I just examined my various Docs.
Brown leather: Both soles and uppers made in England.
Black leather: Soles, yes. Uppers, doesn't say.
Black Suede: Both soles and uppers made in England.

I ain't no label queen either.
I was a waitress, though.
Nothing beats docs for slippery floors and standing on your feet for 14 hours.
And pissy chefs throwing knives at your feet.

Alright, ya made me look.
My black eight-holes and my low-top wingtips are looong gone, but my brown (rather banged-up) eight-holes say:
MADE IN ENGLAND
LEATHER UPPER
AIR CUSHION
MAN MADE SO(and what appears to be a backwards 'J' and then a faded 'K')S
You didn't buy em' for the lable. You bought them because they were supposed to be the last pair of shoes you'd ever need to buy.
I wore mine to my prom.
I wore mine in a NY fashion show.
I wore mine to work (for almost 6 yrs).
...And, If they didn't smell like a big bucket o' ass right now, I'd be wering them typing to you.
It's a shame but, it's almost like a Peter Pan tale. The child grows up and the Docs are left alone with only the fond memories of what was.

never owned a pair of docs.
when i was young & stupid i would boycott anything british.
about 10 years ago i realized i was a fucking idiot, but i still thought docs were butt ugly.
i do own a pair of Gripfast boots which are much nicer looking but have shitty soles.
i also bought a pair of 20 hole Getta Grip boots for $15 at an outlet and had them cut to 13 holes.
when those two pairs wear out for good, i'm sticking with american brands that i like better, HH Brown, Rocky, Danner, etc.

My green 10 eyelet DMs are still going strong after 16 years.
For work, I wear DMs in the cold weather and hightop Chucks in the warm weather. I can't crawl underneath equipment and wiggle around in the machine grease wearing my Manolos
I used to have a pair of black 14 eyelet DMs, but I didn't like them cuz I couldn't run in them. If I can't run in a pair of shoes or boots, then I won't wear them. And yes, I can run in my Manolos - it just takes longer and looks funny.
