I first became interested in absinthe about 5 years ago. At the time there wasn't much available except for Hill's and we all know what the reviews of that are. Well, I decided that I was going to have to make my own if I wanted to see what this was all about. I tried out the Scientific American recipe with moderate success. It was good enough to try and do more research. I think I had a few exchanges about the process with Mr. Brew at the time. It helped me come up with some relatively drinkable absinthe, even though I had used regular wormwood in the coloring phase (hey, I like Campari, and it was less bitter then Campari!)
Anyway, about three years ago was my last batch(which, by the way is still an amazing emerald green!), and I fell away from the fold. Recently I was motived to check out absinthe again on the net. Wow have things changed in just a few years! Good commercial absinthe! I had to order some of the UE. Lovely stuff!
Needless to say, I have been having a blast checking out this board, and learning more of the esoteric details of the green fairy! As I write this, I am trying out some of what I have learned from you guys (tails are being delt with and roman wormwood on the way!). I hope to learn more also.
Well, I can tell that I am starting to ramble on, so I will leave it at this for the time being.

Yes, much like Fat Albert & the Cosby kids, "If you're not careful, you might learn something."

It reminds me of the Alandia Filterated Czeckerland Xit sipping pipe.
Welcome aboard!

I once had a nepenthes at home - it died pretty quickly. Maybe I should have given it some absinhte.

Thanks for the welcoming messages.
Years ago I named my absinthe "Absinthe de Nepenthe" after the Greek word nepenthe, which means a potion to relieve grief and sorrow. It is also the root for the scientific name of the tropical pitcher plant.
Since I just rediscovered absinthe, I decided to do up some new artwork for my latest bottling, which I am coloring on Friday since my A. pontica arrived today!. I am glad you like the drawing.

Well then, happy turkey day and coloring nepenthes. I hope one comes out brown and one green.

Actually, that would be a far more appropriate name for our beloved drink than the one litteraly meaning "undrinkable" ...

Yesterdays coloring went well. I saved out a sample to try before aging. Taste good now, I can't hardly wait to bottle the stuff!
