Blue.

Is it worth it?

I've had the red and well... it's just not for me I guess.

Has anyone tried JW Blue?

I almost picked up a 200ml bottle in CanuckyFuckyLand but it was $50.00 and I started to get flashbacks of going broke on Absinthe...
Absomphe
I've tried it, and it's definitely the best Johnny Walker, for what that's worth, and it's not the price of the blue.

No peat detectable, that's for sure. Lagavulin is SO much better, and cheaper.
DrinkSlinger
Red, Black, White, Gold, Blue... they're all blended.
Pfah.
Just smooth, flowery and light.
To give you an idea of their market. Most people drink it on the rocks.

The blue is "good", but IMHO it's no where near as good as a Single malt in the same price range (or even 30% of it's cost).

If I have to drink JW I prefer the cheaper Red over the Black (go figure).

Are you guys talking about that from the Land of Bogs crap again?
DrinkSlinger
No, CG's not involved with this conversation.

If one must drink Scotch it should be a single malt. Blends suck (though Chivas is pretty decent).
Absomphe
Ardbeg '74.
TheGreenOne
Unless you prefer Laphroaig 30.

As for JW Blue, it's almost as as good as Passport at merely 10x the price.
Absomphe
I don't prefer Laphroiag 30, but Ardbeg '74 is $1000 a bottle.

I think I'll stick to Lagavulin, or Ardbeg 22.
jaded prol
Think I'll stick to absinthe.
TheGreenOne
I've heard absinthe is all toxic and stuff.
TrainerAZ
Only the real stuff, you get it from Czeckerlands.
jaded prol
That's the high thoojones stuff!

Auchentoshan is pretty good stuf for $20. Nice and peaty with a pear and vanilla nose.
Absomphe
$20????

Must be the stuff they age for 6 weeks.

I remember the real deal being something like $110 a bottle.

I loves me my single malts, but I can't stand 'The Trivumvirate' (sp) of the COOMON single malts (all your 'Glens' that every bar has because they think those are good). livit and fidich blow.

So...

if all they have iin single are those two, then I order Black Label. I have tried all 4 of the JW's (and the new pure malt Green Label), and regardless of age or price, the black is the best. Gold is SUPPOSED to be caramely, with vanilla, sweetness, and softness. It is supposed to be an after-dinner/dessert scotch, but I just don't see it.

The Blue is a more complex scotch (very complex for a blend, for what that's worth), and has some flavor... but not all of them are good.

Red is just cheap swill with a nice label on it. TOO YOUNG. Burns like hell. It is only good if it is hot outside, and I am outdoors, like at a BBQ or something. Then, the grassiness and floral character are kinda nice. Otherwise, most folks refer to it as a 'hot-tasting' scotch.

So... if you want to drink a JW, drink black. Still, if there is a decent single around, go with that.

The Macallen 18 is a fav of mine. Tallisker is good too, as is laphroiag (sp). I have a long list of goodies.

The Macallen is decent.
Le Gimp
They don't even put the age of the Auchentoshan on the bottle. Just that it is a Lowland Single Malt Scotch Whisky, and tripple distilled.

Still, not bad. Certainly drinkable.
