You're so right, Officer. The Richter scale is logarithmic, which means an earthquake of 8.2 has an amplitude 30,000 times that of a 4.0 earthquake. An earthquake of 8.7 is approximately twice the intensity of an 8.2. These are massive magnitudes here. Does anyone happen to know the measurement of the most powerful earthquake ever recorded?
