Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Someone was actually stupid enough to not bother looking up the goddamed word before naming their band?

Define it. I tried looking it up, and came up dry.

Jon and Criss Oliva formed the band in Florida with the name Metropolis, but changed the name shortly thereafter to Avatar. Under this name, the band released an EP called City Beneath a Surface in 1982 and took part in some heavy metal compilations.
However, the band had to be renamed once more (due to another band having the same name) and so Savatage (a mixture of Avatar and Savage) was born.

It looks like a portmanteau word composed of "savage" and "sabotage."
Brilliant band name, there. I'd like to see some of their album titles.
They might even compete with my current fave,
High on Fire: Razor Hoof.
Hard to believe that one was serious.

High on Fire are a pretty decent band, actually.

I just remember the title from listening to college radio in my car.
it's the reason for the coffee spit across the dashboard.

Was it the "High on Fire" or the "Razor Hoof" that did it?

I thought High on Fire was the official Filterated Czeckerland Xit song.

"Razor Hoof." Definitely the "Razor Hoof."
"High on Fire" does have a certain familiar ring to it.

That's what I thought until I said it out loud and realized that that's how illiterates pronounce sabotage.
