Usual mass-market crap on the radio. They won't let us use internet radio at work anymore, too much bandwidth.
AndrewT
That's what mp3 CDs are for.
TheGreenOne
Or lossless compressed CDs so you don't screw up the sound quality.

"Kodachrome" - Paul Simon

Just rip your mp3s at 160 k/s or higher. I honestly can't tell any difference between that and CD quality.

"Masked Ball" - Jocelyn Pook

It depends on what equipment (player, amp, speakers/headphones) you're using. On a ipod-type set-up, you're right, it won't make a difference. If you're using a good portable amp (such as a Total AirHead or comparable) and some quality earphones, you can really tell the difference .
TrainerAZ
I'm the only Total AirHead in my office.

There are a few others on the floor, tho.

Actually sampling at 160k/s when the original is 44ks/s and using a lossy algorithem like MP3 will still give you lossy compression. There will be aliassing problems with the differnt sample rates as well. This will generate artifacts above the original frequency sampled at 44khz.

Not that I can hear it since my hearing rolls off a 4KC.

Rimbaud
I use 128kbps on my iPod and it sounds just fine.

I'm talking 160 k/s, not 160 khz. It refers to the ammount of compression used, not the frequency of the data.. 128 k/s is the standard for MP3s, which leaves them sounding a bit flat. With 160 or 192 k/s, the files are slightly bigger, but the sound quality is much better.

Of course they're still lossy, but I really don't mind. Unless you're doing some pretty intense audio editing, the wave form doesn't need to be perfect. Whatever you're listening to is still inferior to hearing it in person anyways. It's kind of like complaining about lossy DVD compression when you're watching something like South Park.

I saw him at the Improv shortly before he died.
It was sad.
He was really fucked up and it was painfully obvious.
I wish I hadn't seen that show.

How about this one? Just as dead.
