Just arrived!, the bottles are still cold.
More to follow later in the day, I can't get hammered and draw floorplans for the min.
Absinthe_1900
I'm sneaking a glass right now, the gentiane has a pleasant earthty bitterness that plays well with the wormwood.
The Gentiane Emile has a refreshing taste.....I'd like to have another couple of glasses now, but that will have to wait for later this evening. glass.jpg
Porkio
Is it orange?
Absinthe_1900
Poured neat it's a straw color, when you water it there is a slight orange tint to the louche.
I didn't drip very slow, (very light orange tint to the louche)......later tonight I'll test fly the gentiane with the fountain, and not gulp my glass down.
I did like what I have tasted so far.

Btw......Eric, if you are out there,....... you were right about the latest run of the Emiles, they do taste smoother.
lambchop
Oh, I can't wait, I can't wait, I can't wait, I can't wait....
(picture me jumping and skipping around my cubicle in frantic little circles)....
(and no....not the pee dance, so just keep that joke that you already thought of writing to yourself....)
der grune Teufel
Had a Gentiane and a Sapin waiting for me at work when I got in.
Nolamour
So, did it have that "oh so Interesting" sweet fish smell that some have encountered with the other UE?
Absinthe_1900
No, and the other Emile products that I've gotten recently didn't have it either.
Absinthe_1900
I can tell you, that I'm not doing any math the rest of the day.......CAD screens and Emile are an interesting combination. kimouss.gif

I noticed that as well. I got another bottle of Emile Blanche last week, and was pleasantly surprised to see the edges were rounded out. Damned tasty.
The alcohol is still too prominent (I think it's because of the semi-fine method of distillation, Peter correct me if I'm wrong!), but that's really a minor criticism. Still the best commercial available IMO.

That is a good description. I had gotten an order of the regular Emile & the Emile Sapin, and cracked them open over the holidays.
I haven't ordered the Blanche recently, so I will have to check that out when my normal supply is lower.

i (and some others, you know who you are, and thank you) just thought that 68° was a bit too hot for the blanche when you don't need to hold color. that's why we developed 'white fairy' at 60° as an alternative...
eric
Yes indeed, I recently tasted some UE sapin thanks to JOALCO. It was noticeably smoother and softer tasting than the sample that I had tasted in Paris this past spring. Very nice!
Larspeart
Yup, I had a feeling that the White Fairy was desinged to correct that 'hotness' problem. I eagerly await that blanche. Otherwise, in general, I am still and will likely always be a fan of the green absinthes, if only for purely asthetic values (and since absinthe is a '5 senses' kind of thing, visual appearnace is important). Something deep down just tells me that absinthe needs to be naturally green.

I'm still anxious to try the new white though. It sounds delicious!

Interesting. Most of the time I prefer LB's over Vertes. The coloration step Masque™s some of the flavours that I like, that are prominant in most LB's.

I like candy canes.
Larspeart
I have only had 2 LB's, but both were a little 'too clean' and too light on tastes and complexities for my palate. UE is a good example. Of their three (well, 4 now), I find it to be pleasant, nice, and light, but otherwise, the most (I hate to say boring) plain absinthe of the three. Sapin has a lot more going on in it, with a dash of spiciness, and a piney taste that I like. Reg UE is classic in taste, body, flavor, etc. The LB is just so. . . basic?

But then, everyone has different tastes, and that is cool! Tis what makes the world fun. If we all liked the same thing, there would only be one absinthe in the world.

Great ... something else to spend my money on.

...or suggest as a Christmas present! thinkerg.gif

Had some of the Empress' #2 a couple of months back, and after becoming accustomed to the Emiles and the few HG's I've tried, I found it surprisingly "lite" - good - but "lite". My most recent bottles of UE Blanche and regular UE 68 are about two months old, so I'm not sure if they're the latest batch or not, but they're both very smooth, and IMHO, more substantial than most of the Bleue's that I've tried.

My Gentiane arrived today and I've had a chance to try one glass. My impressions are essentially the same as those of others within this thread, but I didn't really notice the orange tint.. it's almost the color of regular UE 68, and the thickness and timing of the louche is virtually identical to the other Emiles as well. I'll have to have more later so I can fine-tune my impressions of it. Drunk.sml

You have to sample enough of the #2 to play around with the sugar and water ratios, otherwise it's not that great. It's very touchy, and don't forget that it's quite low in alcohol content. If you get the ratios right, it's really one of the best Absinthes I've had, although everyone's tastes differ.
Raindog
The Gentiane is very interesting and I plan to order a bottle or three in the next couple of days but the recent ET#5 has me chomping at the bit.
Zouave
It certainly was good, but, even after trying it with different ratios, I never really achieved that sweet spot that seems so easy to find with the Emiles. I tend to find anything close to or over 4:1 to be too weak for my taste, no matter what the product. Even at 3:1, #2 was w-a-a-y too easy to drink. But, yeah.. individual tastes, and all that. arcadeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.gif
Off. Jack Batemaster
I think I like to drink it somewhere around 3:1. Normally, I drink at 4.25:1. Leatherman.gif

Forgot to mention Gentiane's secondaries... After one glass, like a ton of bricks. gotya.gif yelclap.gif but it only lasted about 15 minutes. Compared to other Emiles... same as Sapin. more intense than regular UE 68 or UE Blanche.

Normally I don't dwell too much on secondaries, but I will say that they were pretty strong from the glass I had after lunch.
I'm getting ready to test fly a new reservoir glass that I got from Ian today, so time for a round of Gentiane to savor..........more to follow. Drunk.sml

I think of secondaries as the proverbial icing on the cake, flavor being the foremost consideration. BUT.. they are fairly unique to absinthe, so I think they're worth mentioning when a new product shows up.. especially when they kick ass.

To the good folks at LdF:

BRAVO!!!
Eric and I have discussed this quite a bit as of late -- the Un Emile products have greatly improved in the time since they've been on the market. The alcohol heat and fishy smell have been greatly reduced, and the flavors are damn near perfectly balanced. Up to this point, my favorite had been the Sapin, of which I ordered several bottles on the initial release. When ordering the Gentiane I also ordered a bottle of Sapin, and even that fine brew is better than I remembered it.

I'm sitting down with my first glass of gentiane as I type, and as others have noted, the secondaries are quick and noticeable. The flavor is wonderful; the bitterness of the genetian plays well with the wormwood, and the added twist of mint is just right.

Thanks LdF for a (continuing) job well done!

Obviously, I haven't had any other Blanche's to compare, but when I ordered our UE LB, I was worried because of the many comments re: heat & alchohol taste. Not being very fond of drinks that burn my throat, I was a little hesitant, but I have not noticed any more "heat" from the LB then I notice in the traditional UE. It seems surprisingly smooth & well-balanced to my tongue. I've been drinking it at around 4:1 (maybe a little less) with 2 sugar cubes (yup, I like em sweet). Drunk.sml
When it's time for another LB (pretty soon, since all we have coming are Vertes) if the Faery is available, I might consider it, but the current LB really doesn't give me much reason to need a lower-alcohol blanche.
Green Meanie
Got my 3 UE LB's and 1 gentiane last night. Gonna give 'em both a try tonight!!

Hey, my four bottles arrived today. I won't bore you with a review. Suffice is to say it's what I expected but better.
No really, I did get some today.
Honest.
Thanks, LDF.
