I heard this today. Really...
This was Rush's Veterans Day address and he was giving a short version of the history of Armistice Day (Veterans Day)
Heard by me and pulled from his website:
"In 1921, an unknown World War I American soldier was laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery. Across the Atlantic, England and France also laid unknown soldiers to rest. The three ceremonies occurred on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. A 1926 congressional resolution gave the date an official name, Armistice Day. Twelve years later it became an official holiday honoring veterans of the First World War. "
Armistice Day (Armistice means TRUCE) celebrates the signing of the truce or cease fire between the Allies and the Germans in Compiègne, France. The deal was signed and the guns went silent on the 11th hour of November 11th, 1918...
...
...
Ass.
The most ironic piece to the story is that he said all this RIGHT after he praised Bush for saying that it was wrong to rewrite history! (Relating to the ideology that the left is telling lies about how we were duped into going to Iraq!)

I was offended that the pres's Veterans' Day speech was consumed with justifying his own agenda and countering his detractors. He has other opportunities for that. He's the pres.

Digits,
I don't know whether you're trying to needle Rush or just want to smack him upside the head.
However, it is a bit ironic that he was commenting on Armistice Day, known in the U.K. as Poppy Day.

I like the real audio and verbatim transcripts.
Often, when I see an edited speech or a major-news-source quotation,
I'll go there to cross-reference the spin.

the idiot speaking,
or the idiot listening?

The latter. I bet Rush only believes half the stuff he says. His audience believes all of it.
Speaking of total fucking morons, how about O'Reilly saying he didn't care if Terrorists blew up San Francisco?

actually, my post wasn't about believing his bullshit.
it's simply about not turning the radio dial.
having ANYONE listen to him, even the dissenters, bumps up his ratings.
me, i already know he's an assclown, so i wouldn't listen to him.
if more people did that, perhaps the stations would see that he can't pull in sponsors anymore and will end up canceling his show.
vote against him by turning him off.

I save money by not listening, since listening would inevitably incite me to smash my radio.
While it's fun to hear Al Franken debunk Rush daily, it would almost be better if everyone just treated him like the utterly foolish ass clown he is and just ignored his existence entirely. I guess the good news is he and O'Reilly will be gone within 10-15 years anyway since most of their audience is at the age where they'll be dead by then.

He's on vacation this week.
Seriously guys here's the thing.
He would regularly have Dick Cheney call into his show.
Doesn't anyone else find that a little disturbing that the VP of the United States would be a 'regular' call in to a syndicated radio show?
It's like 1933 all over again...
"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."

Albert Speer was the architect who served Adolf Hitler with devotion and efficiency, starting with his enthusiastic crafting of Nazi rallies and going on to become the organisational genius whose efforts are credited - if that is the word to use - with keeping the German war machine functioning under the onslaught of the Allied blockade and bombardment.

Heinrich Himmler - the second most powerful figure of the Nazi regime after Hitler himself - was the master architect of Adolf Hitler's police state and the founder of the SS: Nazi Germany's elite fighting force which functioned also as Hitler's Praetorian Guard.

The difference is this time the government doesn't need it's own propaganda machine since they have lapdogs like Rush, Novak, O'Reilly, Hannity, Carlson, Hume, Coulter, etc to manufacture justifications for any of their polices out of thin air. If we're looking for an enemy, we'll certainly find one regardless of whether they're actually there or not.
