I listened to both NIN and Johnny Cash (thanks to the tv playing it for me) last night and noticed that, yes, some people may like one more the other, but both versions suck. Both Reznor and Cash have had much better songs (like every other song they did).
Yeah!!!

Yes, but "Hurt" will be more likely to get you laid if you play it.

I think that whole bullets-getting-shot-at-him, bombs-exploding-at-any-moment-next-to-him will get him laid just fine.
Hey, rygD, hope you're safe. And home.

I came back a while ago. Don't really wish to discuss this anymore after this, but I disagree with the whole Iraq thing. I understand many reasons why Bush II may have decided to invade, but none that seem relevent enough to doom an entire country to becoming a worse place than the hell it started out as, and getting Americans killed at the same time. On that note, I feel that since I was there when it started I need to go back and stay until the end.
And Hurt is not the type of song I think I would want to use to attract pussy, the results would be much less than satisfactory.
I think from here my posts can only get better, as I truly do not care enough about this topic to understand why I posted to begin with.

Yeah, they both suck. Not that he does a bad job with what he has, as the song blows.
1888, if we get along it will be a first, I don't get along too well with others.

I love it when people say something sucks without saying why.
Here's why Johnny Cash's Hurt does NOT suck: Because he sang it knowing he was near the end of his life, sang it a few months after his wife died, and he sang it in such a way that you could tell every word was absolutely true for him. He sounded like he was torn apart inside and had to get it out, and you can hear it in the way his voice wavers. It doesn't get any more real than that.
His cover of Personal Jesus, on the other hand, sucked. You could tell he just sang that one because he liked the song and thought it would be fun to do, but it didn't really mean that much to him.

The song sucks because whiney songs suck and it is a whiney song.
Same reason Nirvana sucks. I could give more, but I don't feel like going to listen to shit music to support my feelings.
My feelings alone should have been more than sufficient to support my statement. Unless I was bull shitting you.

Yeah, Johny Cash was just whining. What a crybaby. In fact, his middle name is Little Lord Fauntleroy. I believe he's even descended from Marie Antoinette, maybe even FEMA ex-head Michael Brown. He used to always put on Laura Ashley perfume and drink soy milk before going on stage.
Or not.
That song isn't whining. It's FEELING. Try that sometime. It ain't always fun, but it's worth it.

I was always a fan on NIN's version, and yes, it did get me laid once. But of course I was only 17-18 at the time when it was released, so perhaps I was more in that retrospective, self-destructive, world-sucks attidtude that comes with those rebellious years. When I saw Cash's version (the video on LaunchCast) this last year, it put a whole new spin on it. As opposed to a physical pain that Reznoe appeared to be talking about in his version (my interpretation), Cash appeared to be discussing the regrets of life and the loss he endured. Theres a scene in the video where it flashed to a photo of his ex, and I got all choked up on it. What Im trying to say is:

They both kick ass!
