Wow.
Anyway... back on topic for a second. I thought I'd relive some High School Daze and download some
BIG AUDIO DYNAMITE!!!Woo-Hoo!
It's 1986 again and I'm still the messed up, dark, brooding, voted most likely to bring a gun to school loser I was back then!!!
I wish Absinthe chicks were around back then.
No, they were called 'Art Chicks' and that's the crowd I was with.
Yeah. I rolled with the black trench coat, Pet Shop Boys crowd.

So did I, but I took quiet satisfaction in knowing that I was so much more hardcore than my peers.
Ironically, most of those girls ended up getting treated for heroin addiction, major depression, or both; whereas I spent 10 angst-riddled years trapped in soul-devouring middle-management jobs, performing in nightclubs on the side in an effort to recapture a piece of mine.

They're just different.

What did you perform in these nightclubs?
Just curious... (banjo?)
And yeah, they're different but I do see some similarities between MM jobs and drug addiction.

<------- They both make you wacky!

Zowie.
As 1888 said, the new DM is great. It's funny because since they went back to the darker stuff, they kind of sound a bit like the bands that emulate them now (like The Faint & NIN) but mo' betterer. That last song "Darkest Star" is probably one of the best songs they've ever written.

they're always better when they embrace the darker stuff (writing from the soul) as opposed to pretending to be happy (writing for the masses)...

Dr. Girlfriend: Sweetie, isn't that the guy from Depeche Mode?
The Monarch: Oh, no way! Where? Holy crap, he's with a girl!
Dr. Girlfriend: Oh yeah, that guy is totally straight. I saw a whole thing about him on the VH1.
The Monarch: But he's the guy from Depeche Mode. It's impossible.
Dr. Girlfriend: Straight.
The Monarch: Come on! He's in Depeche Mode!

Yeah, he has a wife. So does Martin Gore. So does Robert Smith.
That way they can bang eachother and nobody suspects anything.

I saw Depeche Mode live last night at Madison Square Garden.
That show was absolutely incredible. I'd never seen them live before and was blown away. EVERY song was good, there were no throw-aways (that means no songs from Exciter, ha ha!). Every new song was excellent and the audience were actually all cool people and knew every word to every song, new and old. They did 2 encores, Martin Gore sang Somebody, they did Behind The Wheel, Strangelove, Just Can't Get Enough, Question of Time, Never Let Me Down Again and of course lots of stuff from Violator, and they played Walking In My Shoes (!), which is one of my favourites. They played for 2 hours with 2 encores. They closed with Everything Counts and Goodnight Lovers.
If you're a fan, they're playing again at MSG tonight, then in DC tomorrow night, and in LA again on the 18th. Don't miss this tour! The lights, projections, sound, performances and everything couldn't have been better.
