All:
Now to a more peasant subject...
I notice that FSC sells combo packages of absinthe & olive oil.
I don't get it. What is the connection between absinthe and olive oil?

Aside from the fact that they sell both, none.

Slake uses the olive oil to lube up for Winston.

I bought one of the packages last year .... damn good olive oil! I'm not sure of the connection between absinthe and olive oil, though. But hey, it works and I could use a reorder in the near future.

SC sells all kinds of products; absinthe and olive oil being two. Why they like to combine them in some of their "specials" isn't really clear, but they do - so - I don't think there's any obscure connection between them.

I think they combine them because they are both Spanish specialties. "Connoisseurs always ask for the Spanish." Spanish olive oil is great.

Yeah, I think the last explaination is the most likely...
they are specialties brought in from similar area's.
And then there is the simple fact that I am sure the oil is incredible. I had a small bottle from a friend who brought it back from her travels. It was spectacular, almost took over the dishes I used it in...

I need some good Spanish Olive oil to make Gambas with.
Wally-Land Extra Virgin olive oil just does not have the same flavor I remember as a child.

Yeah, every time I saw that while looking at FSC, I would stop, think about the two together, and kinda go 'hmmmm', Arsenio Hall style.

Yeah, it's kinda like getting a bowtie and matching garden hose.

Because, people cook with both items and when it comes through customs it is considered a "FOOD" preparation item.

I think the main reason is so that countries that ,shall we say; aren't fond of the idea of you importing absinthe will look at the package documentation and see olive oil. If they can get you to buy this combo for that reason, they increase their profits and decease their inventory
Yet, many of us here can prove that it isn't necessary--at least, yet

Duh, I obviously didn't read the post by Hellcat. It essentially says the same thing I did

Either way, I heard a couple of you say that it is in fact GOOD olive oil? I'm always on the look-out for a new and better brand of one of my key cooking staples.
As my mantra goes 'cooking only begins after garlic and onions have been sauteed in good olive oil. Period.'
It isn't a flavored oil, is it?

Generally olive oils are not flavored anything cominfg from Spain, Italy or Greece should be amazing. It depends on the type too! Pure virgin or extra are always good. (O.k. I just set it up for a virgin joke...fire away).
