Ever watch the TV show Freaks & Geeks?  It was only on one season but was amazing.  Just a few nerdy kids who were Rush fans and played D&D in 1980...

i fucking LOVED that show.

i was so pissed when they pulled that.

Ditto. GREAT FUCKING SHOW! Someone needs to release that series on DVD...

Here's a way to make it happen!!!

Maybe D&D,computer geeks, and the Rennie faire do have a little in common-
Freaks and geeks.

Freaks and Geeks was a great show.(Ditto.)I think many TV viewers would
rather watch the Beautiful People on shows like The OC and Dawson's
Creek(is that still on?)At least the plug was finally pulled on 90210-the opposite
of F&G and low on the realism scale.

Freaks and Geeks might have reminded too many people about how things
really were in the good old-bad old days.

Have you ever seen the documentary Trekkies?Watch people in full klingon garb(that really know the klingon language-did you know there is an Institute for the study of klingon language?)go to Mc Donalds and order EggMcMuffins.Watch the cashiers try to be polite and not laugh. See the woman who is the "captian" of her own "ship" and goes to work every day in full Star Trek captian regalia.
I like StaTrek, but this over the top and very funny.

By the way(intergalactic)peace,man?

zactly why i loved it. had to be one of the most real slices of life i have ever seen. no stupid canned laughter or obligatory happy ending. ugly and real. something i can relate to.

Trekkies is a great film. Isn't that the one where the auctioned off the glass the actor who plays "Q" used because he was sick and some dumb ass trekkie drank out of it because he wanted to get sick from him?

Oh man ....

Yeah,I can relate to"ugly and real"too..Jr high was a nightmare.
I wish I'd had some of Carrie's talents.Adult life has'nt been much
better at times.Absinthe seems like a promising relief from reality.
The Un Emile 68 took the edge off;I am waiting to see what Fudgie
Rolls and Un Emile Blanche have to offer. Drunk.sml em31.gif

What is that saying?"Reality is what happens between naps."Absinthe
seems better than naps.First it wakes you up, but you do'nt mind that
you're awake. If you drink enough it gets you drunk and you do'nt remember
reality, anyway. And it comes in pretty colors and you get to use those pretty
little spoons and glasses. wink.gif

Luckily I do'nt have enough to spend on it to get addicted. I hate
AA meetings.AAA meetings? sleep.gif

the use of that last word.)

Without them(us?) what would the normal people have to talk
about? And who would write all the best books, screenplays,

Well, now that we have somehow morphed onto the subject of Trekkies, I'm gonna name drop a tad here & impress the hell outta all of you.

I used to know Gene Roddenberry. Pretty well actually. Well enough that I accompanied him to a Star Trek Convention around the time the Next Generation was about to premiere. Well enough to have been on set for the shooting of the 2nd New Generation episode. Well enough that I spent my 27th birthday attending his funeral with his personal assistant. Although he was happy to once again have a career, he was more than a little bemused by the level of fanatacism on display (& this was BEFORE the days of the Klingon Academy et al). I always felt that the reason he liked to have me around was that although I knew the show well & could discuss it semi-intelligently, I never frothed at the mouth or made a nuisance of myself to him. He really hated people who ran up to him blithering about what Capt Kirk would have done, or why would Spock act that way etc.

Gene would HATE what has become of Star Trek, I am positive. He was quite adamant that by the time the future depicted in these shows had come, there would be no more recreational drug addiction (& he was an alcoholic & amphetamine abuser), he tried very hard to show his Federation Forces triumphing through mind power & diplomacy rather than fire power, & above all, he wanted to show the future as a really great place where most of the problems were created by aliens with less understanding (but the ability to learn) than humans had achieved. He would be appalled that people actually walk around attempting to speak Klingon & thinking that they are starship commanders. Gene loved to laugh & had a great sense of humor (remember how funny those first shows could be?) so these fanatics would drive him round the bend!

Ok, I know, another Buck style post, too many words. I'm just sorry Gene's legacy has been twisted & commercialized beyond all recognition. He was a really great, visionary man who loved to entertain people. There aren't many like him left in the entertainment industry.

now if you knew Shane MacGowan...

Right.

I've hated Star Trek since it came
on in the 60's.

He sounds like a fine gentleman. You were lucky to have known him so
well.

I like the original Star Trek and Voyager.I never liked Deep Space
Nine, especially when it descended into new age blather.I do'nt like
Enterprise.

I have only been to one so-called Star Trek convention.I did get to
hear Leonard Nimoy speak, but otherwise it was a waste of time and money.
Nothing to do except buy merchandise, most of it not even related
to Star Trek.

Very few people in S.T costumes either,so there was no fun to
be had laughing at trekkies.

The convention was at the Disneyland hotel. One vendor was selling beautiful
faux jewel-gilded swords.

I almost bought one,but we were also going to Disneyland .I did'nt think
the Magic Kingdom would store it for me,and I know the
"Happiest place on Earth" does'nt permit weapons.

None of the local channels show anything but Enterprise,so I have not
watched any Star Trek in quite awhile.Maybe once the Direct T.V is
hooked up I can peek in on it now and then.

I collect a lot of old stuff, but vintage synths don't turn me on. I have been using a tiny little Roland jv-1010 for recording and live performance for about three years.

Modern synths have come very close to duplicating acoustic instruments.
rygD
I would have to say I love TNG and what little I got to see of Voyager. I was never very fond of TOS or DSN, although I will watch the classics if there is nothing better for me to be doing. Have not seen but one episode of Enterprise.

At least one more TNG movie must be made, as Q said he was going to visit Picard again. They didn't go over that in Voyager and take away the chance of a Q movie did they?

Didn't Voltaire do a Star Trek album?
