It would't be a bunch of drunks they'd want to shut down. The obsession with controling information that has Bush attacking the New York Times is much more frustrated by the internet. First they try to discredit it, then they'll try to shut it down but not like China. They'll use different ways of pricing to limit access (by cost) to particualr sites. Only those who spend the most will have total access. Tha is what net neutrality is about.

Then, in the name of Homeland Security, they may round up certain bloggers and charge them with crimes for endagering irrational security.

Behind them? We are pretty much neck-and-neck. Thankfully, our hulking bureaucracy has proven ineffectual on this point so far. There has been resistance from within the ranks about setting obscenity prosecution as a priority. It's a sword of Damocles.

That and obscenity is a big business.
