Metro Police Shoot Suspect on Las Vegas Strip
July 5, 2006 10:39 AM EDT

A North Las Vegas man is dead after Metro Police say they were forced to shoot and kill him on the Las Vegas Strip.  Two teens captured part of the incident on video and shared that with Eyewitness News.

***
Metro Police say it all started when two bicycle officers patrolling as part of Operation Safe Strip pulled a man over for playing his radio too loud.

Hannety had no further comment on his officer's performance evaluation.
"All of our officers have passed the mental and physical examinations required by the department, and that is all I'm allowed to comment on."

The fact that the officer involved was off duty at the time has been called into question as well. Witnesses say that the first indication of trouble that they noticed was simply a man standing beside a car brandishing a gun, with no obvious sign that he was a policeman.
"It was just some guy, climbing out of this bright yellow Porsche, screaming that he wanted the radio turned off. He had a gun in his hand, but I didn't know he was a cop."

Ha!

I'm glad I didn't turn up my stereo when I poured him a drink.

Las Vegas Review-Journal

A 48-year-old man whom Las Vegas police officers stunned with Tasers Saturday night was pronounced dead Sunday afternoon

He is the fourth person to die after being shocked by Las Vegas police since officers started carrying Tasers in 2003.

The man, identified by the Clark County coroner's office as Felipe Fragoso Herrera of Las Vegas, had been pulled over for driving with expired license plates about 11 p.m. Saturday, police said.

The three officers involved in the event are on routine paid administrative leave, Roberts said.

I need to remember to be very polite to the police in this town.
