I have absolutely no doubt that he's the one and only person that knows the location of an unimaginable fortune in hidden KGB gold, and that he will give that information gladly to anyone who wants it, because he wants nothing to do with the cursed cache.

My belief is that the only reason he is asking so much money for the information is that this is likely to eliminate all but the greediest of men, and thus the most deserving of the cruel fate of the curse.
