In no way, shape, or form, did Santos Dumont, make the first controlled airplane flight.
The 14 Bis had no true rudder contol, and relied on an excessive amount of wing dihedral for stability (Think hand launched toy glider) with an engine.
Dumont's 14 Bis was an aeronautical deadend, (Dumont abandoned any further work on it).
At that time in France, Dumont and the Voisin's were only able to create airplanes that were not fully controllable, and could do little more than make straight line flights.
When Wilbur Wright came to France, in 1908 the French papers openly called him a fraud and a "bluffer", but from the moment when Wilbur Wright launched his Flyer into the air, the French aviators Bleroit & Delagrange, watched dumbfounded that Wilbur Wright was able to turn, and bank his Wright flyer, within the confines of the field where he took off. (a turn was something French aircraft were hardly able to do in 1908)
Bleroit remarked, "We are Beaten, We don't exist".
After that one flight Wilbur was feted all over France, and the French papers quickly forgot the venomous remarks they made about Wilbur Wright, as he astonished EuroFuckyLand with his epoch flights.
Santos Dumont's later Demoiselle, was a practical aircraft and quite remarkable for it's day, being the first light aircraft to fly in a reliable manner.
Santos Dumont was quite a figure in early flight, and definitely has a large place in early aviation hsitory.
Since we are coming up on the 100th anniversary of the Wrights first flight, an excellent book, "The Bishop's Boys" gives a remarkable insight to the Wright Bros. and their flights.

I hate tomatos too.Unless they are prepared in something, like salsa
or tomato paste.
Did you know tomato growers put green tomatos on a conveyer belt and
spray them with a substance that ripens the skin?Nice and red on the inside,
green on the inside.Fried green tomatos are pretty good, though.
Home grown tomatos left to ripen on the vine can be very good.
I do'nt like store tomatos or iceberg lettuce,so I guess all that's left
to order is a bacon sandwich.Add a fried egg and a slice of cheese and
it's pretty tasty.

No tomato emoticons.

And how about the inside?

Whoops.
But I'm sure you know what I meant.
On the very inside, green seeds in slime.
But frying green tomatos in a batter of eggwhite and
cornmeal leaches out the slime and most of the seeds.
This may not be an authentic southern recipe but
the finished product tastes good.
Sorry about the mistake in wording.

They expose them to Ethylene gas. Hence the acronym "Ethylene Green". Crispy Water, Fake tomatoes, shit!
I love real tomatoes. I grow Romas, Better Boys and Rutgers. Even green they have more taste than store bought tomatoes.
Up until this year I grew at least two dozen plants. The new house doesn't have much room for a garden so I only had a half dozen better boy plants this year.
Roma's make great sauce. Rutgers and Better Boys make great canned tomatoes, and are great fresh in salads, sliced on hamburgers, or split and stuffed with tuna salad.

You are making me hungry. One of those tomatos with
tuna sounds very good.
That's great you can grow your own tomatos. We grew
cherry tomatos when I was a kid. Those are yummy too,but hard
to stuff.
I wo'nt even buy tomatos in the store.
Tomatos are supposed to have a chemical in them that fights cancer.

note: ethylene is produced naturally by ripening fruits... if you don't want your apples, bananas, tomatos, etc. going bad so fast, don't store them together... if you buy underripe bananas , storing them with an apple will ripen them faster... yadda yadda yadda...
