Hello,
I have just purchased my first bottle of absinthe (Edouard 72) and I’m dying to try it. I was told that once the bottle is opened it should be left open to aerate; and that I should never re-cork or seal the bottle once it has been opened. Can someone please tell me if this is true?
My apologies if this is a stupid question. I just assumed that I could re-cork the bottle like a bottle of wine.
Thanks in advance to all that reply.

And who gave you that info? Cork it when you're done.
In fact, I would use another wine stopper, the cork Jade uses is not the best.

Since you were given bad information, there is nothing stupid about your question. You should keep your bottle of absinthe tightly corked and out of the light. Never store it in your refrigerator, but try to keep it in a cool place. For many of us here, a bottle doesn't last long enough for it to matter.
Welcome and please tell us a bit about yourself.

T-Corks are good replacements for damaged or other corks.
Get 'em at your local home brewing supply store.

Thanks everyone for the fast replies and other advice. It is greatly appreciated. I live in Texas and have wanted to try absinthe for quite awhile. But living in the U.S.A…well, you know…..On a recent trip outside the U.S. I stopped at a local liquor store for some goodies and stumbled upon a bottle of Hill’s Filterated Czeckerland Xit. I though that this must be my lucky day and quickly bought the bottle. The clerk at the store was the one that gave me the bad advice about leaving the bottle open to aerate. When I first tried the Hill’s…..I thought I just bought a very expensive bottle of light-blue Nyquil (at least that’s what it tasted like to me). When I got back home and did some research, I realized that I did pretty much buy a big bottle of Nyquil. So I purchased and just received the bottle of Jade. A bit pricy but I believe I purchased real absinthe this time.
If anyone has a favorite absinthe that they could recommend, I would also appreciate it as I would like to try a variety of “the green fairy”.
Thanks again

Sorry you bought the hills, Nyquil would have been better for drinking. The Jade is a good introduction to absinthe, but ignore their marketing crap. I'm fond of the
Clandestine 53 La Bleue , it would make for a good second absinthe.

Well for the Hill's, I would leave the cork out when you turn it upside down in the sink.

Welcome, Aquila. Are you, by chance, a fan of Rush(the band, not the shit in the little bottles)? Jade is overpriced for what it isn't(an "exact reproduction" of pre-ban). Try sampling some of the mini's offered at Absinthe-Distribution.com....most are good.

Thanks Crosby, I will definitely give the Clandestine a try. I think I will use the Hill’s as a toilet-bowl cleaner. That is exactly where it belongs.
Plunger, I am huge fan of the band Rush.

Oh, I forgot how fast you could sink a 75cl bottle ;).

Welcome.
My current regulars are the Eichelberg and Montmartre, both good, different, and relativey cheaper than Jade. Most noobs are taken aback by the exorbitant shipping costs on absinthe, especially when ordering a lone bottle of the most expensive stuff out there. You didn't even mention it. Are you, by any chance loaded?
And who says "On a recent trip outside the U.S...." besides news anchors and CIA Operatives? Most average people are more than happy to name-drop foreign countries, if simply to brag about their world travels. Just an observation.

I've figured it out. This is That guy who says lots of stupid shit, then says-"Bro" after to make it ok.-bro trying to make a comeback.
The Rush thing gave it away.

Hans, thanks for the recommendations. I certainly agree with you on the expense of bringing absinthe into the US. After buying the Hill’s and being severely disappointed, I did my “absinthe due diligence”. I decided on the bottle of Jade because I read in several reviews were it was rated as “one of best”. But I would also like to try several others as well. I will be putting in another order soon (I understand now what was meant about the bottle not lasting very long); and I will definitely try to find some of the ones recommended in this thread.
As far as the trip I mentioned, it was indeed “The Great White North”.

Have you tried the Capricieuse 72 La Bleue?
How is it compared to the 53?
