I was just wondering whether or not absinthe goes bad eventually after you open the bottle? I'm assuming that the only thing you really have to worry about if the bottle is open is the alcohol evaporating but I'd like to know for sure...
Also: is there a proper way to store an opened bottle? I mean.. proper temperature, out of the light, &c.
Masque
Out of the light, no evpiration date I know of. A good bottle of absinthe should never last long enough for that question.
CelticGent
the only one that lasted long enough to find out tasted like shite to begin with, so i didn't notice the difference.
Larspeart
Masque is right on both accounts.

I know people who let an opened bottle sit for months or more on the liquor cabinet shelf. Keep it out of the light, dry, and keep the top clear/clean and a bottle should last indefinately.

Now, the question I'll ask is, what is taking you so long to drink a bottle that you need to ask that?
sheepprofessor
The color may turn somewhat yellowish if it is exposed to the light. I've never noticed any harm to the flavor of any of my open bottles, though.

But as Skeeter says, the safest bet is just to make sure that none of 'em last that long.
Justin
The next questions is:

Why the hell haven't you invited us over to help you drink it before the expiration date? Which, by the way, is next week, and I am thirsty.

My first full sized bottle of absithe (La Fee) lasted me four months. I liked it better the longer I had it, probably because of the time it takes to become accustomed to the taste and dail in the water/sugar ratios and preparation method that tastes best to me.

The reasons it took four months to drink are

1) My fiance doesn't like the taste,
2) It seems to make me slightly fuzzy-headed the following day, so I only drink it on weekends.
3) Toward the end of the bottle I slowed down trying to make it last longer.

I stored it in a kitchen cabnet next to the floor where it was dark and a bit cooler.

The reason I was asking was because I just got a few bottles from SC and don't want to try them one at a time; I'd like to have ALL the bottles open.

Also: If anyone is in the area (Manitoba) feel free to stop in!

And the answer to your question:

Yes, but not in your lifetime - if properly stored.

Most commercial absinthe goes bad before you open the bottle.

If anything, your bottles will probably IMPROVE over time... although as the amount of air in the bottle increases they will, in theory, begin to oxidize.

I have never really noticed any flavor changed until the bottle had only 3 shots or so left, then the flavor seemed to fade a little.
DGLeadbetter
On the average, a bottle lasts me about a month. actually ... less.

I just got 4 bottles and am already rationing it so that I can make it past Christmas before enough funds arrive for more orders.

"Absinthe expiration, Does it go bad?"

That's like asking:
"How many licks does it take to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop?"

Remember the first bottle of Pignon I got wayyy back when?

Just killed it the other night. I have had one shot left for about two months. When you have one shot left, you have options, but now I am out. No options. (Except for Felix and Swizzle Rouge.) Which makes me ahead of the game, I think.

I've got a full bottle of Huguet that's been around the world several times. It just sits on the shelf... waiting... and waiting.

Two bottles (one was free) of bloody SyrupPiss - one minus one shot. It does add a Christmas theme with my NS 70, same age.

CG - I'd be worried that if they were to break mid-transit, we'd have another Anthrax-like scare.
