What they said.
Ok, I know that there is a story behind this offering; only parts of which I know. Would the maker(or someone closely involved) be willing to take a few minutes to share it with those of us who are not fully in the loop? I can only offer my sincere gratitude. If not, thank you anyway for making something that tells the world(all 184 people in it and their lucky friends) what good absinthe should be.

Now that I've had a few days to slowly deplete the worlds supply by 50cl, I feel ready to comment.
The mouthfeel is fantastic. No other commercial even comes close.
The color is a bit yellow, but wtf do I really care about color.
The Louche is just as impressive as the mouthfeel. Thick and heavy.
Tastewise it's got the fantastic floral bouquet of the hard to find juicyfruit wormwood. While I love the taste, it's very overpowering and manages to push the more subtle flavors aside. It takes a lot of tasting to pull the Lemon balm and hyssop out. The Fennel and anise are refreshing, but a bit weak in comparison to the Wormwood. I notice my palate becoming a bit numb to the wormwood by the second glass. It's then that I can appreciate the other flavors that have remained in hiding. I'm hoping a few years aging will mellow the one sidedness of this absinthe and take it one notch closer to perfection.
I've tasted several HG's that reminded me of this one (back when the HG'ers were on a high wormwood kick). It's as clean and smooth as the best of them. In fact, it's better than 95% of the HG's I've tasted... but that Nimes...whoooahhhh!!! (It just kicked ass).
I'm not sure of the recipe Eric used, nor do I know if this was the exact taste he wanted, but I think to be the best current absinthe in the world it could use a little more balance.
For an experiment it's very impressive. I only hope the opportunity arises for a second go at it. I'm excited that anyone (with a credit card) can now taste what only a select few have had the connections for in the past.
Sorry Ted. I guess artists are just as apt at making absinthe as scientists...

True about that Nimes -- that was phenomenal!

Ted's Definitive Review:
As for L'Artisanale, again, it is something that I've tasted maybe twice, both casually and briefly. As per my recollection, it was lighter in texture, balanced, and leaning somewhat toward the drier side. Its style seemed relatively consistent with other samples from its maker, except now the particular herbs used are more familiar (obviously). One U.S. purchaser recently made the comment to me that its lighter texture was appealing, so this will be viewed as a primary attribute to those with that preference.

Does that mean the lack of the "Jade funk" makes for a "lighter texture"? If so, that is an appealing attribute.

Even though the new Tedsinthe comes highly recommended, it still tastes like Jade to me. I haven’t tasted Oxy’s cache yet, the one Ted says will vindicate him, but I find it highly unlikely that a perfectly preserved bottle of Pernod Fils is going to taste like the commercial Jade offerings. I’m keeping an open mind, but I just can’t see the cloying and obvious flaws in Jade ever aging out. Just my opinion.

In Ted's favor, the new Brew is less cloying and obvious than the Nouvelle-Orléans or the Edouard 72. The VS is still my Jade of choice, when I have no choice.

Let's see, Ted got his Ph.D. in chemistry at CalTech, did his post-doc work at Cambridge and invented Jade while working at Dow on the successor to dioxin. How can you say he's not a chemist?

I poured a glass tonight and was blown away by the vintage like quality it has acquired with a little age. Nothing else that has ever been commercially offered comes close. I only wish there was a chance that it would ever be a viable product. I also wish I had more than 1/3 of a bottle left.
I still haven't opened mine.

I agree it has nicely aged but to the detriment of the balance.
I did a side by side tasting with the PF1901 (yeah I know) and the PF1901 is ageing nicely too, its balance is getting better and better.
I'm not sure I'll be able to taste them both again in a few months but I'll try to keep around 10cl of each just to see how they evolve.

You have got to be xitting me...I got a chance to taste them side to side. For the record, Ted is complete fucking djipxit still caught up in the smell of his own farts. They are almost nothing alike. Logan Fils is just as close if not closer to the vintage...
