They look very nice. May I ask what was wrong with the regular silver? What was wrong with the surface texture.

Sterling silver is traditionally an alloy of 925 parts silver and 75 parts copper.
Heating the alloy to any useful degree creates a layer of surface oxide called fire scale. A highly polished piece of silver has this layer removed through abrasion. The abrasive process removes much of the detail.
Sterling silver with germanium has the same 925 parts silver but a small part of the additional metals is germanium. Germanium allows a more stable alloy system with little to no surface oxide left over from casting and forging.
