I think that unions are necessary to some degree. Workers rights and wages being some of the topics of concern. Anyone else think so too?

Yes.

Yes, but I come from that despicable continent called EuroFuckyLand.

32 years as a teamster, I have always gotten a pay check.

Indeed.
No matter how much work you watched others do.

At least as far as trucking is concerned. Unionized carriers have always been the most productive and profitable for share holders.

I’ve worked on mixed crew shows; it was never fun for me. Like they say, you get what you pay for. I had the road electrician from Phantom of the Opera once ask me how it is that union carpenters can hang and focus lights faster than nonunion electricians do. For me, I hated gripping scenery with them. They were slow, dangerous, arrogant and, above all, incapable of learning (read stupid). Because we were loading in a smaller show, into a venue that can’t pay afford a fulltime union crew, the crew was mixed. The only part I enjoyed was watching their numbers dwindle, every single fucking day. As Bob just pointed out, it is often more cost effective to pay for more qualified labor

Huh. Turns out there actually is a topic on which I do not already have an arrogant, overthought, self-interested opinion.

And have you remedied the situation?
greeneyes

Hardly. I have an inclination, but that is about all.

Melllowing with age and wisdom?

Oh, you do make me chuckle.
I doubt it's anything like wisdom.
Recent circumstances have left me with a severe piss-&-vinegar depletion.
It's probably just the concommitant lethargy.
Besides, the topic was well covered by our 2 labor pains.

You keep using those big words and I might start to think you're smrt or somethin'.

Grad. students prove it: you can't spell "smart" without "SM."
