This is about a sheriff and his henchmen, it had been going on for years, everyone knew about it, now they want to play it down.
He arrested people for drugs and guns, the people received as much as 25 years in prison for narcotics or weapons violations. He steals the narcotics and guns from police lock up, sells them to criminals and blesses them with immunity from him and gets an 8 month sentence for it, he reports in in two to three weeks.
Isn't there something about color of law? Committing a crime under the color of law should garner a stiffer penalty shouldn't it? A friend of mine went to prison for 15 years without parole under the rico act, under this popular act, anyone who told 3 or more people what to do in a criminal enterprise qualifies, the guy was a sweet heart, and a pot dealer, but they were handing out rico convictions like they were going out of style.

I grew up in Gimpy-land and still visit there every year or so. He's right. I've never met a single person there who did what Vick did, and WG is a dead wrong idiot. There's a lot of dumb asses down there that neglect their animals, but in my experience dog-fighting is WAY more prevalent up here in NYC.

One dog I rescued was a Pit-Sharpei mix that was a bait-dog for pit fights, and this poor dog was seriously fucked up, puncture wounds everywhere, infections, mal-nourished, mange, terrified of everyone and everything. We fixed her up, found her a home with friends and now she's the most gentle, loveable pooch you can imagine. Dogs are 10x better than people, and I like dogs better than 95% of the people I meet. Anybody who would do what Vick did should be locked up and banned permanently from ever owning any animal once they get out. The guy is a piece of shit as far as I'm concerned.

But Peeps makes a good point about people giving more of a shit about Vick torturing animals than athletes raping women.

I've always been fed up with it and always will be. But I'm not even remotely surprised at that shit. It's what our country was built on, after all. It's the gasoline in our tank. It's the threads woven into our money, and it has paid for the weapons that have murdered a lot of innocent people. There may be a lot of great and noble ideals on paper throughout our history, but the actual events in our history running up to this very moment are about as far away from those ideals as you can get.

I was watching CNN (aka The Schadenfreude Network) the other day, and they showed some security camera video of a mom in a van trying to outrun a train. She gets hit by the oncoming train and her two kids get killed. CNN actually showed the video. I can't wait till they just start showing snuff films 24/7.

I've been to West Virginia twice. Out of everywhere I've been in this country it is by far the most fucked up state I've been to. Between the ignorant populace and the pollution from the strip-mining, it makes north-Georgia Deliverance look like a utopia.

They're actually just a very popular dog to own among blacks & hispanics, kind of like how white ladies over 50 tend to own some Yorkie or Maltese mix little poof-ball. The Pits are only for fighting if they have clipped ears or you can see puncture wounds/scars on them. Even in the projects there are plenty of owners that have Pits that don't fight them. I met one kid in the projects in Brooklyn who raises Pits but will only sell them to people who he knows won't fight them.

Yeah, but I hear them bragging about the toughness of their dogs while they're walking in the hallway. By no means am I stating that if you're black and own a pit, you are fighting them. It just makes me wary because of the area in which I live.

My nearest neighbor was an old white man who raised cocks for cock fighting. He died last year and the widow sold all the chickens.

To what extent cruelty to dogs can be laid at the door of a given race or culture - that can be debated.

What Vick did wasn't "black" behavior - it's THUG behavior. When he was given the golden ticket, he failed to separate himself from his thug associates, and that's all on him. I feel the same way about the white assholes who fight dogs. I know someone who lives in Alabama. He said he drove to work past a yard full of pitbull houses, each with a dog on a short chain. When Vick was busted, it all disappeared over night. It's a good start.

I own a 16 month old female pit bull. She's as friendly and energetic as they come. She loves people and has never acted aggressive towards anything other than cats and squirrels.

But I fear the day she meets that one person that sets her off. Put bulls are powerful little dogs.
I don't believe it will happen, but take I precautions against it. So yes I keep her tied up when she's outside and no I don't let her run around.

We had a pit bull that we adopted after someone dropped it off in front of the local vet's, blew the horn and hauled ass. She had a bad skin condition, which we almost cured. She was sweet as can be to people, but one day she suddenly got it into her head that she had to kill one of our other dogs. We couldn't break her of it, and some bloody fights resulted. The other dog was not a pit bull, and not inclined to start a fight, but not inclined to back down from one, either. Sooner or later one dog was going to die. So we had to return the pitbull (the vet understood it was an experiment that might not work out). Not long after that we got a sympathy card from the vet's staff, which was sort of a clue what they did with the dog. That will be with me the rest of my life.

I miss mine. Certain dogs have certain tendencies or talents I think, herders, hunters, trackers.
No breed deserves a bad rep but if you didn't raise the dog from a puppy he may have inherited some bad habits from it's other owner.
Two dogs fighting is the worse, I never had to hit my dogs, a frown was enough, breaks their little hearts when you frown at them. But when dogs start to fight, there is only one thing you can do: be the biggest, baddest dog in the fight, wade in with a big stick or your fists and start flailing on them until they pay attention to you, pulling and yelling won't help, a 2"X4" will generally get the point across.
In a situation like Artemis, it's hard to watch a new dog try and dominate (or kill) your pet, all you can do is separate them permanently.

At first the pit bull bitch got along fine with our other dogs. Then she came into heat, maybe for the first time, and everything changed after that - she got agressive toward another bitch - a Cao de Castro Laboreiro, which was bigger than the pit bull, but always backed down. So Meili, the pit bull, turned her aggression on another bitch, an Arkansas Cur who weighed about the same as Meili but had a longer, leaner build, with serious jaws, though, every bit as formidable as the pit bull's. When those two locked up, NOTHING would separate them: not hollering, not punching, not hitting them with a stick, not firing a fucking shotgun a foot away from them - nothing. I've read that even a cattle prod won't stop them - don't know the truth of that. It's like they couldn't stop even if they wanted to - their bodies lock down into some sort of Vulcan death mode when their jaws are locked onto each other. I would have liked to have the pit bull spayed before bringing her home, but she was so sorry with the skin condition neither the vet nor we wanted to put her through it just then. You can't save them all - you got to do what you can.

I was "left" with my lil' pup even though I never wanted a pit. I still love her more than ever. It's not her fault she was left behind.

Some people are in love with the idea of owning a dog; they don't care about upkeep, training or reality, they just like the "puppy" aspect.
