Encouraging and worshipping are two different things.
Kirk
Dec 7 2007, 05:37 AM
And it's usually the artists that do the worshipping.
Kirk
Dec 7 2007, 05:40 AM
And who are these (how you say) "artists" you speak of?

Yeah right, does an artist make the Jade spoon?
Same artist that makes the
Shell Drippers, John Troia.

Um no, and do I have to explain to you the difference between something born of pain, made by hand
in my back yard, a piece that is made different each time, for the individual who asked for it,
and clippings swept up from a factory floor, loaded into a gondola and floated out en masse?
On the one hand you (had) a piece of art, from me, on the other you have a widget from a factory.
Fuck, that cinches it, I quit, no xit, I'll throw myself under a train before I make one more god damn piece of absinthe culture xit.
The spoons are dead, long live the spoons.
But don't fret, I'll still be grinding away in my studio, still breathing the grit, still burning my corneas.
I'll be enjoying myself again.
I hate people, I'm tired of trying to explain why.
Kirk
Dec 7 2007, 06:01 AM
Besides the fact that John Troia did not make those spoons, they are not art, they are not "made"
in the way I use the term "Made". I'd rather not hear my work mentioned again than to have it mis understood so.

I didn't make any judgement. I personally think that e.g. your Artemisia spoons kick the Jade spoon's arse many times, for the record, if only because they're an original creation rather than a competent neo-something recreation. Not to mention the elephant grille.

Thanks 6. It's my fault for making them available, the best thing I can do for my spoons is kill them now.

I have to say, it was a real thrill making them. The visions, the false starts
and small victories. I pushed my little work shed to limits I hadn't previously considered, I hope I find something to push it even further.
The process is rather childish, the mind bounces from one interest to another
all your life, responding, gradually becoming haunted with faces, tools, skills and detritus . We are a mansion, we are an open house.
Sometimes people or events leave a trace. It started with the Artemis grille,
I responded, I wanted to grille Artemis, I wanted to have a conversation with you, I wanted to share what I was doing and find out about what you all were doing.
I'm getting old and tired.
Kirk
Dec 7 2007, 07:56 AM
I know that everything we think is wrong, but it can work out right, we learn, things change.
The whole inspiration for the Artemis grille was wrong, I don't want to grille Artemis, I like the guy, he is tops on my list.
It's not likely I will be driven to respond in metal to this whole thing any time soon.

Butt, those Jade spoons are "exact reproductions" of the original Jade spoon. Every detail of its making was explored and recreated using authentic techniques historically accurate and authentic down to unimaginably minute details. The few lucky absintheurs who have had a chance to use the original Jade spoon are unanimous in their remarks ass to the exactness of this exact reproduction.

The spoons John and Kirk make are two entirely different animals and John has never represented it any differently. Never has he claimed that he’s making art here, though I’ve witnessed the amount of graphic art skills involved. I am amazed Hartsmar got this big of a reaction from his little snide comment.
One difference between Ted and Johns work, John actually did reverse-engineer his product. He put a lot of work into figuring out how the old spoons were manufactured and I imagine he’ll bring some interesting things to the marketplace, now dominated by Froggy PhiL. None of which should detract from the skill and passion Kirk puts into his work.

Kirk
Dec 8 2007, 05:57 AM
I don't want to contact him, I don't want to bother him, I have nothing to say, I know how it's done. I'd just like to know a little more such as;
Where are the spoons manufactured, who owns the press?
Does John make stuff for Tiffany? Is he Tempus Fugit?
I don't want to make any more of my spoons because I made too many already, how many copies of an original piece of art should I make?
I don't run a factory, until I think of something I'm driven to make there won't be anymore, if I do make anything it will be limited to less than 10.
They were more work than you might realize.

I checked my records and I'm pretty sure Roddr at eBay only bought one of my Artemis grilles, he got it from my auction.
It seems like he has sold more than one, anyone notice?
At any rate, I don't like seeing it there, I wonder why he bought it if he didn't want it.
Looks like three in the last few weeks.
hereBut I can't tell if he actually sold them.
Kirk

Works in real estate.
If you do an eBay search, check mark "completed listings" in the left hand column and then "show items" , it will show you what stuff went (or didn't go) for.
When I did that I didn't get the grilles you found though.
