The top ten chick flicks, according to MSN.
10-Three way tie:Steel Magnolias,Beaches,Pretty Woman
9-The Women('39)Starring Joan Crawford
8-When Harry Met Sally
7-Grey Gardens('75)Mother/daughter angst
6-Sabrina('54)Romance blooms between chauffer's daughter and rich
playboy.
5-The Valley of the Dolls('67)Featuring Patty Duke and Sharon Tate.
According to MSN,"fame,riches,disease,death and drugs."
4-Thelma & Louise
3-White Oleander-More mother/daughter angst
2-Imitation of Life('59) Starring Lana Turner.MSN-"single motherhood,
racism,classism."
1-Gone With The Wind
My addition for #11-The Stepford Wives-Robo-women take revenge!
(Just kidding,guys!)
My opinion(whether you care or not.) Most "chick flicks" are over the top,
sappy, and boring.I would rather see a David Lynch film(does Blue Velvet
qualify as a chick flick?),Pulp Fiction,or Robo-Cop 2.
The Valley of the Dolls sounds promising, though.

I'm with you, Catus. I don't do well with maudlin pandering and transparent feel-good preciousness. Fight Club, Ghost Dog and On the Waterfront are more my kinda thing.

The original 'Sabrina' is a great film. Bogey and Audrey Hepburn--how could you possibly beat that?
Audrey Hepburn is so dreamy...
But pretty much everything else on that list sucks a whole lot.

Perhaps I should see Thelma & Louise. Bitches fucking shit up rates high in my criteria for good entertainment.

greeneyes-I call them "warm & fuzzy" movies.I want a movie to leave me chilled,
disturbed, and puzzled(and needing to sleep with a "fuzzy" comfy blanky for a month!)
I agree about Sabrina.Audrey Hepburn is always dreamy.

"You wanted to know who and what I am? I'm a killer. I kill with my cunt. You can write about it in Midnight Magazine or National Inquirer. It's gonna be the new sensation..." -Margaret from LIQUID SKY

"This pussy has teeth. No one should fuck me ever."
I have it on VHS, DVD AAAAAND an old homemade tape that was dubbed three times in 1983. Oh, and I have the soundtrack on vinyl.
SMACKDOWN.
I lurve Gone With The Wind though... I'll have to agree on that. Oh, and The Valley of the Dolls, but Russ's "Beyond" trumps that by oodles.

CG-I agree with you about Bram Stoker's Dracula. It meets all my criteria and it's very romantic.
Coppola's version is very true to the book,as well, and even included some things Stoker decided to leave out-the cowboy character is one.And Gary Oldman was perfect. Is'nt he always?
I had a working script of Dracula, and lent it to a friend.I never got it back.
(never lend out irreplacable things!)
I also liked the Joy Luck Club.
I do'nt think of Thelma and Louise as a "chick flick."It's a movie about two tough, adventurous, crazy(driving off a cliff is a little crazy)people who just happen to be "chicks".

Ghost Dog and OtW share themes — the potential for magnanimity and redemption in an average joe, e.g. The proponents have interesting parallels, also. Both are warrior figures of a sort. Both keep pigeons. I think that Ghost Dog is recycled Brando. Is it too great a stretch?

Very interesting. It's been years since I've seen OTW. I'll have to give it another look before I decide about that one. But I can see the parallels you're talking about. Hmmm.
