Help for Helfrich:
Hellfrich would never use the informal "Du" on a first night. He's much to polite for that, and would address anyone with the formal "Sie" (and third person plural that goes with it).
Crosby
Mar 5 2008, 09:45 AM
Lst time I used "Sie" with someone under 50, I was told I was being "altmodisch".
sixela
Mar 5 2008, 09:54 AM
Helfrich would probably point out that there's nothing wrong with that. I certainly would.
You can reply with "Ah, meinen Sie das echt?" ("Oh, doth thou really think so?"), preferably with a wide grin.
Helfrich
Mar 5 2008, 01:31 PM
Yeah, saying "Sie" could even feed your desire in this culture. Furthermore, it depends on where you are in this country. Berlin or Munich are not at all like deep province where I live. People here only say "du" to children, next of kin and good friends. The owner of this landed estate prefers to say "du" to everybody he knows and because of that he is considered not to be "really German" in this sleepy village. Still, the Germans call this region (Niederrhein) their "Far West", that is: almost as uncivilized as the Netherlands.
But within the last two months I haven't found any rough sex here. For free.

The U.S. currency continues to tumble, while gold and energy prices keep surging. The dollar dropped the fresh lows against the euro and fell below 100 yen during Asian trading Thursday, the weakest level for the dollar against the Japanese currency in 12 years. Gold surpassed the psychological benchmark of $1,000 an ounce for the first time, and crude oil briefly passed $111 a barrel.

Ostpreußenlied
Land der dunklen Wälder
und kristall'nen Seen,
über weite Felder
lichte Wunder geh'n.
Starke Bauern schreiten
hinter Pferd und Pflug.
Über Ackerbreiten
streicht der Vogelzug.
Und die Meere rauschen
den Choral der Zeit.
Elche steh'n und lauschen
in die Ewigkeit.
Tag ist aufgegangen,
über Haff und Moor.
Licht hat angefangen,
steigt im Ost empor.
[Heimat wohlgeborgen
zwischen Strand und Strom,
blühe heut' und morgen
unterm Friedensdom.]
