Anyway, cervezas rojo followed by absintos lucidos. Damn I love red beer. Have found a bit of tomato juice helps the lucid as well.

I started to use rape-seed oil as part of my naturalization in Netherrhinania (Schweineschmalz was out of the question) until my place started to smell so sickeningly sweet that I had to give up that experiment. Fortunately there's also plenty of excellent butter and olive oil available here.
Cilantro can be fine as long as the dosage stays below the soap threshold.

Love the new title, boss.
I've been very busy, stressed and anti-social the past few weeks or so.
All over now, except the busy, but that's almost done.
Here's the one light, and a dim one at that.
I'm now able to drink Kubler, at my hoodie pub.
There's something kinda nice, after all these years, about drinking absinthe in public. Legally, I mean.
On the downside, all my Coors-light-drinking-blue-collar-older-than-Jesus-friends now think I'm a pretentious twat.
Two years of drinking beer with the guys in the wife-beaters.
One night with a proper glass of absinthe and I'm "uppity."
balzdeep
Apr 5 2008, 11:47 PM
I for one know that it's gonna take WAY more than one glass of absinthe in a blue-collar bar before they think of you as pretentious.
Shoot, a year's worth of cosmos and manhattans might be a long-shot.
Good to have you back, though. By the way, if they do kick you out for being too uppity, did find Kubler at the Rain bar in Luxor for $12 a glass. Drink there everynight and we might call you uppity and pretentious, however.
balzdeep
Apr 5 2008, 11:50 PM
...and besides, Coors is a bit uppity anyways, haven't they been told Coors makes a better/cheaper beer called Keystone? Better taste profile with a $12 30-pack.

I was a Keystone Light gal in my tweens.
But get this, they haven't figured out how much to charge me yet, so they're charging me for anisette at $4 per glass. Like I can complain...
At a 300% mark-up, typical for bars, they should charge me $12.50 per glass for the Kubler.
Like I'm gonna argue.

Apr 6 2008, 12:09 AM
Christ, at $4/glass, might be cheaper to drink at the bar than to buy a bottle and drink at home. And a shit bar serving anisette? Funny. Blue collar bars here have a bottle of bourbon, jack, vodka, and cheap rum on the shelf. They do tend to have a bit of beer, as well, however.

My bar is not blue collar. It just attracts blue collar.
Something which makes me happy.
White collar here, too. Boring.
Also gold collar, as my bar attracts a lot of pimps with really bad legal advice.

Those options would be legitmite options involving a few financial advisors I know.

Moonshine from somewhere near Strzyżów, has a typical odour, but is very smooth. Wine-based but not burnt. Little sweetness in the initial palate. When it is analyzed, we will know more, looks like it has low methanol content, but the rest might be higher. I got it yesterday from one of my former students.

Last I checked unless you were Latino, slavery was pretty-much abolished in the US. And don't even get me started on union labor...
So I started with the Duplais Balance with 2 small sugar cubes. WAY TOO SWEET. Nice "balance" other than the sweetness. This is obviously one I will try next time without sugar. Overall not bad, could be a bit thicker with some flavor, but no obvious concerns with it. Would place it in the top-5 of CO. Need to try it with less sugar to decide if I want to order it again.
Followed with Brevens. Might I say that this absinthe has the best neat odor profile of most any absinthe I have smelled, and if I could squish it into my Glade plug-ins I would. That being said, the smell once watered down 1:3 with one cube had an off-smell to it, which was easily distinguishable in its flavor. A small amount of the bathwater taste that I have found in absinthes that have been cooked a bit too hot. Don't know if it is tails following over or if it is a burnt taste, but it is off none-the-less. Still a strong bite with a spicey profile that, without the off-taste, would be in my top 3 of CO absinthes. Spicey goodness, that's what I like. It does have a VERY strong resemblance to an HG I have tried in the past, but the more I try to link it, the more my head hurts. Unlikely to order again unless the off-taste is resolved, however if is resolved would likely be ordered again and again.
Lastly drinking a glass of Hellbitch. I will admit this is the nicest colored and louched CO verte that I have seen. Beautiful! Taste is well balanced with a bit of the citrus notes that were previously described, however I don't think that those notes were as overwhelming as I expected. Overall feel the absinthe flavors are in-check and feel this is a good traditional offering. That being said, once again I am picking up the off-flavor that I noted in the Brevens, but quite a bit more powerful. The amount of off-taste I am picking up is reminiscent of several good HG's that others have praised, but didn't bid well with me. Curious if the coloring is the culprit of both the Brevens and the Hellbitch. Were they heated with herbs floating free in the batch and then strained, or a different approach taken? Anyways, feel that Hellbitch has a bit of work but is off to a great start, wish I had more personal pointers to offer to him but I, unfortunately, do not:( Am very curious how his blanche compares to the verte and if the same bit of taste is carried into that.
Could be I am sensitive to that taste, as others have not mentioned it in absinthes that I have noted a significant amount present. However it is not the "iodine" taste others note occasionally, it truly is a bit of diluted bathwater taste. Might be an herb not agreeing with my palate but, if so, still haven't picked out that herb.
Now onto the bottle of Versinthe...;)

Actually went back to the bottle of Duplais with one sugar cube, was a good combo and glad I got a full liter of it.
Overall happy with the total purchace of Duplais, Hellbitch, and Brevens, not to mention that I even bought a bottle of Jade NO (which had been my personal favorite "ordered" since Moonman, although I haven't tried his last two repros) which, personally, will not even be broken out til I am either VERY bored or out of the hooch.
And with Versinthe Blanche waiting in the cabinet, doubt that boredom will come into play
And I do want to mention the secondaries are amazing when compared to Lucid. Wish I could compare them to Kubler but not drank more than one americanized version. I like feeling and knowing I am drunk but yet not seeing it...

Funny, ya mix Hellbitch with Brevens and what have ya got? Hevens, or maybe it's Bretch. Needless to say you mix Duplais with Hellbitch you get Hellais/DupBitch, both of which were possible Oldsmobile models that were discontinued before they were created (as most of them should have been).
Found out today that, due to unpopular demand and trying to double-book ourselves on the slowest day of the week, I get tomorrow off with no pay. Am trying to catch-up with some much needed drinking so I can enjoy the day off! Hellbitch followed with Duplais. Sounds like a broken record.
