A buddy of mine turned me on to this series of comics, and I gotta tell you .... wow. Detailed, rich characters, awesome story plots ... some of it is like modern day Greek mythology. Any one else out there ever read this?

Nope. Sounds good, though. I used to be hugely into comix, and I'm fond of Roman Dirge's "Lenore." I seem to remember seeing SandMan on the shelves a few years back. How about a brief plot outline?

AH, I LOVE the Sandman comics. I started reading them right after I started college and got h-o-o-k-e-d hooked.
Here greeneyes:

Enjoy.

Yeah--the Sandman is great stuff. I've read about 3/4 of the large volumes of it, and have recently ordered the remainder.
I'm not much of a graphic novel fan (although Watchmen kicked ass)--Sandman is definitely worth a look.

Sandman by Gaiman is absolutely incredible. I was turned onto the series by a friend in junior high when the first two issues were fresh on the stands, and have been hooked ever since. On par with the best "real" (and I use the term lightly) books you've ever read. Suffice it to say, I shed a tear when the series ended
In fact, a good friend of mine is a tattoo artist, and he drew up a couple of beautiful pieces for my burgeoning sleeves featuring the Moebius rendition of Death and the Sandman from "Ramadan" which I am quite proud of. Very cool indeed.

"Sandman" is some of the best litterature from the late 20th century I've ever come across. Nothing less.
Try some of Gaiman's novels too - "Neverwhere" is highly recommended.

Coraline is another unique book by Gaiman.
Joalco, post a pic of your Sandman tattoo. Talking about a tattoo is like dancing about architecture.

sandman is one of the best mature comic series ever created, i have all but the last few (i was starting to cut back on my comics addiction). i even picked up the death mini-series and the death figurine. i enjoyed just about everything that dc-vertigo comics put out.

You have fucking GOT to get the Sandman book illustrated by Yoshitaka Amano. Very good story, beautiful art.
They also just released an anthology of new Sandman stories. Do not get that. That sucked ass, mostly.

I was also a Sandman reader, and still read a few other Vertigo titles.
I also enjoyed the mini-series that Thesally (sp?) got awhile back and "Lucifer" enjoyed the distinction of "my favorite comic" for a few months. The artwork and colors of the early stuff kind of hurts my eyes.
I generally follow writers rather than artists though so I don't count it
as too much of a minus, and it's very representative of what comicsgenerally looked like at that time.
When I get the time and $$ together to get some more ink on my arms I want to integrate the shadow of "The Kindly Ones" as negative space.

Ask Jeeves was reading this, smart bot that one.
I'll have to say I loved Sandman.
Presently I'm loving the DMZ series by Brian Wood (and anything by him really).
Set in the not too distant future, the DMZ is Manhattan island after the "Free States" seperate from the "US"
and the UN has to come in to help.
A lot of present day analogies obviously.

I've read two Sandman graphic novels, "A Doll's House" and one based on A Midsummer Night's Dream. I like it that he uses theatre titles. Meant to read more, but I never got around to it.
Grey: You suck.

1) "A Doll's House" was amazing, Neil Gaiman is an incredible author.
2)Calling them "Graphic Novels" is pretentious. Why can't they be comic books and still have relevance, and be fucking cool?
3) Yes, I know I suck.

I call them 'graphic novels' because I received a relentless tirade when I referred to them as comic books in the local "Graphic Novels" shop.
Hmmmmm........should I refer to "Bettie and Veronica" as graphic novels as well? Probably. Just to be on the safe side when next I venture for a copy of "Milk and Cheese".

A very close friend of mine, (Comicazi on Myspace)
runs a comics shop.
Comics are a great art form. Anyone that thinks otherwise is full of pretention.
Calling them graphic novels shows insecurity and self-consciousness.
